Thanks. “Taliban lite” never really appealed to me.
Um...What?
You need to take a break from posting posts that divide the Body of Christ. Seriously. This is a legitimate issue, but you’re exposing your passion for exalting the Roman Catholic Church at the expense of exalting Christ. Slow down, buddy.
That being said, I don't know of any scripture that makes it clear that avoiding contraception is essential, or even strongly recommended.
I skimmed the article, and while there are many problems associated contraception, most are roughly the equivalent of saying cars should not have back seats because of what happens there.
The cold will not be conquered by medicating the symptoms.
Far be it from me to know what context Calvin was discussing contraception. But it's clear from the snippet you offered that Calvin is preaching against avoiding having children in general (much like when the "alter Christus" denies himself a wife and family.)
Abortion is a sin. But barrier contraception is legal, moral and up to the discretion of a husband and wife.
As I said, please continue to have crotchety old celibate men and the pederasts among them keep telling women they must have a child for every year they are married in order to swell the papist ranks.
Many of those families will see this as one more good reason to depart Rome and find themselves in a Scripturally-faithful church which acknowledges no mediator nor redeemer but Christ.
I just finished reading that entire piece. It was excellent. I’m not Catholic but there was so much truth to that piece, it was humbling.
At first, I thought you wrote this, but I see it was Dr. Janet Smith. That was really good and I read it all. I am tired now.
You acknowledge that you started a whole new thread to grind an old axe? You even copy in posts? Listen to Theo.
Of all the gifts of God I believe that “The Church” dislikes free will the most.
That’s not an old axe, it was posted today. That kind of vicious demonically inspired Planned Parenthood/Margaret Sanger propaganda needs to be refuted.
“It’s scary that many here would be perfectly happy with a theological influenced government.”
Only so long as it was THEIR theology influencing said government. If it is someone elses religion doing that, THEN it is wrong.
Yes, it was written by Janet Smith. She’s a great lady. I had the good fortune of sitting with her for dinner following a Catholic Medical Association conference several years ago. Just a really great person.
Then there is the issue is seperation of church and state. If one does one's homework it is easy to find that Jefferson was explaining to a church that the government was restricted from involving itself w/ the church - but not the other way around.
You seem to think it is wrong for any individual or group to impose its moral framework upon everyone else. Is that correct?
I would not mind you pinging me if you post other good stuff like this. Thanks and God bless.
Yeah, those founders were a real bunch of radical whack jobs.
Are you kidding? I think she says it very well. Her writing is conversational and I like that. I am so used to academic writing and reading scholarly journals that it was like a breath of fresh air. And, FWIW, I am very tired so I overlooked the true author in the first bit.
I have no idea why you think she says it poorly. Maybe you could do better?
I gave up after a few paragraphs. She needs a good editor. The writing was redundant, wordy and skipped around with her ideas. Perhaps it gets better as one progresses. I will try again.
