The Russian Orthodox Church has called for tougher rules to reduce the number of abortions carried out in a country struggling to combat its fast-dwindling population. Russia registered 1.2 million abortions and 1.7 million births last year, according to the Health Ministry.

“In Soviet times we got used to abortion and we got used to considering it an unavoidable part of our legal reality and that there is no way to the turn back the page,” Archpriest Vsevolod Chaplin, a powerful cleric who is close to Russian Orthodox Patriarch Kirill, was quoted as saying by Interfax news agency. “But we see today that it is possible to turn back a great deal,” said Chaplin, He said the legislation had to change but declined to say how.

Considering a number of abandoned children there I bet abortion is not a biggest anti-life problem for Russia.
The main reason is it sucks to live there.
With average annual income of just $16,000 (a third of American) their living costs are way higher.
Just compare any of their consumer goods, housing prices with American ones.
A lousy 400 sq.feet one-bedroom tenement-style commie block appartment in Moscow or any of major cities is priced higher than decent midwestern mcmansion. Jeep grand cherokee considered as cheap SUV there starts at $60,000 in their Chrysler dealerships, Sebring is about $30,000-40,000. Jap trucks costs over $100,000. So does foods, clothes etc ith businesses briding mafia and officials to stay afloat. Note, $10,000 natural coat is not luxury but a thing needed for survival with winter temperatures of -40C. Maintaining urban infrastructure is also a challenge considering extreme climate affecting living costs either. Both parents are to work full time. Only alcohol and cigarettes are cheap there.
Add ineffective buerocracy messing everything up and you’ll see it is not a good idea to grow a child in Russia.

It’s really not nearly as bad as you make it sound. I’ve been to Russia several times in the past few years and I know. Yes, the real estate prices in major cities are high but you forget that most Russians already own their flats which also means that they possess considerable debt-free assets. Yes, US cars are for some reason really expensive there, but in contrast German cars are cheaper.

Ok, my view might be a bit too bad but where do you want to live? America or Russia?

US without a doubt, but I wouldn’t kill myself if I had to live in Russia.
