Although I am a Christian, I feel it is incumbent upon us to respect the beliefs of others IF THEY DO NO HARM. Your friend seems to have led a largely decent life and paid due respect to the Creator and His laws. My view is to accept what others believe, as HOW people worship is more important than WHO they worship.
Respectfully, Christianity is a faith of razor-thin exclusivity. Jesus made it very clear that faith in Him and Him alone was the gateway to eternal life. He also said this would be offensive to many, a "stumbling block". As far as living a "decent life", none of us will live a life "decent enough" to earn the right to eternal life in God's presence. Our only hope is the righteousness of Christ, which He gives as a free gift to those who place their faith in Him. The belief system you are espousing would best be classified as Universalist, not Christianity.

And just as respectfully, I cannot know the mind of God.
