Christ instituted the Church, is the head of the Church, and nobody I knows considers it "a god" or sacrifices to it.
Christ is the head of the body, the church.

I Corinthians 12 continues to explain what is meant by the body of Christ. If one believes that only those who are members of his assembly - whether Roman Catholic (Latin Rite), Orthodox, Presbyterian, Baptist, Pentecostal, Methodist, Lutheran, etc. - are members of the body of Christ he has made an idol of his assembly by his great error because the body of Christ is made by God, not man, any man.
But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. – Romans 8:9 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, [even] to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. – John 1:12-13

God’s Name is Jealous - it doesn’t matter what one prefers over God, he may or may not call it a ‘god’ – but if he loves that thing or that one more than or equal to God, it is an idol to him.
