Pope Benedict to deliver 'intense' message during Fatima visit
EWTN News ^ | 5/5/2010

"Fatima is a particularly significant place for this Pope," said Vatican spokesman Fr. Federico Lombardi on Tuesday, noting that it was also a destination for two former Popes. The Holy Father has a thorough knowledge of the history of the Marian sanctuary, he added.

Fr. Lombardi held a press conference at the Vatican to prepare the media for the Pope's next trip out of the Vatican. He will be visiting Portugal from May 11-14.

The spokesman referred to the Pope's stop in Fatima on May 13 as the highlight and "heart" of the upcoming four-day trip to Portugal, according to Vatican Radio. But, he pointed out, Benedict XVI will not be the first Pope to visit the Marian shrine.

Two other Pontiffs have been to Fatima. In 1967, the sanctuary hosted Paul VI, and John Paul II visited in 1982, 1991 and 2000, at which time the visionaries Jacinta and Francesco were beatified.

The Portuguese shrine is not unfamiliar to Pope Benedict, since as head of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, then-Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger extensively studied the message of Fatima. Fr. Lombardi said on Tuesday that the Pope has been involved with history of the Marian sanctuary in a "very deep, personal way."

It was him, for example, who was called upon to give a theological perspective when the third secret of Fatima was made public in 2000.

The Vatican spokesman said that the Holy Father will also deliver an intense message during his Fatima visit. Upon his arrival at the sanctuary on May 12, he will remember John Paul II and the 29th anniversary of the assassination attempt that nearly took his life on May 13, 1981.

This visit marks the Holy Father's 15th Apostolic Journey abroad in his five years and is his first to Portugal as Pope.

During today's general audience, the Holy Father greeted the people of Portugal in their language, telling them that he will be there this coming weekend at the invitation of the president of the nation and the episcopal conference.

He said he was "happy to be able to visit the 'land of Holy Mary'" on the 10th anniversary of the beatification of the shepherd children.

According to Portuguese press reports, local police are planning for a cumulative total of 450,000 people at the celebrations in Lisbon, Fatima and Portugal during the four-day visit.

I’ve long felt his death was ‘premature’ and planned, executed by dark human forces.

“And you plan to prevent people’s being deceived...”

As much as can be prevented.

...saying things about them...”

I don’t say things about individuals. I speak against the doctrines of man and demon that are coming out of the Vatican. Those doctrines are not Christian. To follow them, is to follow something that is antichristian.

“...presenting yourself as so perfect...”

I do no such thing. Several times I asked that you take what I said and compare it to Scripture, and if you find anything that I’ve said that disagrees with the Bible, to then post what I said and the verses that discount it.

“...reject your words is to dismiss God.”

Not my words. I was repeating what I read in the Bible. Those were God’s words. I even told you that you could look in the Word and see it yourself.

“Would you prefer that all Catholics be corralled in one place and stop posting?”

I would prefer that all those who follow and obey the Vatican would turn away from idolatry and blasphemy, repent of it, and turn towards Christ. Come out of Rome and into Christ.

“...here you are claiming to speak for God...”

I have done no such thing. I was only repeating what I read in the Bible. Please apologize to me for this false witness.

“...travelling from the planet of Vaticania...”

I never said this anywhere and have no idea where you got it. Please apologize for this obvious bearing of false witness you have done against me.

“Not Catholics.”

This has been hashed out many many times on these threads. The Roman edifice does indeed see itself as the one true church. Even the use of the word “Catholic” which is another word for the Body of Christ suggests it. The Body of Christ is made up of all Christians. The Vatican and those who follow and obey it are not Christian.

“Why was the expression...”

So you are posting Vatican catechisms to proclaim the Vatican is right? Here’s a novel thought, post Scripture.

“Some people are just doofusi. Speaking generally.”

If you are speaking about yourself I won’t argue with you as you know yourself better than I do, but don’t you think you are being a little harsh on yourself? Generally speaking of course.

“Start with the image in your mirror.”

Feel free to compare anything I’ve said with Scripture and if you find a discrepancy, post what I said and the verse it conflicts with.

“So you’re saying that instead of following the Vatican we should follow you?”

No, I’m saying that instead of following the idolatry and blasphemy of the Vatican, follow Christ as he instructs in His Word instead.

“You’ve already as much as said...”

I said no such thing. Please apologize to me for this false witness.

“Saying that you are telling us to follow God, not you, is not an answer, because the Vatican says the same thing.”

The Vatican says no such thing. That is the point. It is wrong to pray to dead people, they do not bring your prayers to Christ. None of that is in scripture. The Bible says to pray to the Father, no one else. Not angels, not the dead.

Mary was just a Christian like any other. She has no special authority. It is blasphemy to give to her the titles reserved for God alone. It is idolatry to pray to her. It is blasphemy to give the Pope the titles of God.

There shouldn’t be any statues or icons or medallions or fetishes of anything assumed to be in heaven. It becomes an idol that people expect they can pray to and get a special spell cast on them. Like finding lost things or curing cancer. Pray to the Father for these things.

There shouldn’t be a structured bureaucracy of preachers, it leads to corruption and is nowhere in scripture. Teachers should not be celibate, as the Bible says they should be married.

The bread and wine was to remember Christ, it was not to become an idol or to be the center of a magic ritual.

Peter was not the ‘first pope’. Christ was speaking about Himself when he said “this Rock”. The edifice didn’t even come on the scene for another 100 years.

Ugh there is just so many of these things that the Vatican is doing that is completely against Scripture.

“We find the Bible to confirm our view.”

Bible verses have been posted again and again that directly contradict what Rome is teaching.

“So why should we follow you?”

Please, enough with this strawman. It is the Word that should be followed, I was only repeating what was in it.

“Clearly it’s not a matter of Scripture.”

That’s the problem. When it is shown that the Vatican teachings are contrary to Scripture, those who follow and obey Rome throw out the Bible every time. This is what needs to change.

“...Mary is not Jesus’ mother, or she is but we shouldn’t say so.”

There is a difference between saying that Mary is the Jesus’ mother and saying that Mary is mother of the Body of Christ. If you cannot see this difference then you shouldn’t be making claims to having superior logic.

“This has now achieved very close to supreme silliness.”

It is Vatican willful blindness. It stems from not wanting to follow what is in the Word of God but instead wanting to do the opposite while maintaining a cloak of spiritual acceptance.

"I myself believe in miracles."

Do you acknowledge the existence of miracles?

If so do you acknowledge miracles have been preformed by and for Catholics?

If so do you not see that as an endorsement of the Catholic Church by the Holy Spirit?

“That is not what the Vatican teaches.”

Nonsense. This has been hashed out again and again on these threads. The Vatican absolutely teaches that it is “The Body of Christ”.

“Do you think Catholics should be banned from FR? YES or NO.”

Go ahead and reread the post I already made that answers this question.

“Well, we’ve all experienced putting a word or phrase in Google and getting some very disturbing results.”

If you are implying that the website in my tagline is “disturbing” please feel free to post the reasons why you feel that way into the public forum where it can be debated and possibly shown to be an incorrect description of that material.

“If you don’t like them, don’t look at them. And we won’t mind at all if you don’t post on them.”

Idolatry and blasphemy must be countered with the truth so that others may avoid falling into the lies of Rome. If idolatry and blasphemy is posted in a place I am allowed to post on I must counter it with the Truth in the Word. Everyone needs to hear the words in the Bible. Everyone needs to flee from idolatry. It is like fleeing from a burning building. It is only for everyone’s own good.

"I would prefer that all those who follow and obey the Vatican would turn away from idolatry and blasphemy, repent of it, and turn towards Christ."

So how can you claim to have any credible knowledge of what the Catholic Church actually does or does not teach without ever actually having read or studied the Catechism, the Canon Law, or any of the Encyclicals?

Since your entire point of reference is from anti-Catholic and Protest-ant sources you have as much credibility as a self proclaimed expert critic of Judaism whose only source of information is from the Nazi's and Palestinians.

Wow, what an excellent and edifying post, thank you.

Their inane posting is a form of strategic denial; it draws away the time, efforts and attention of good people who should not be wasting valuable time debunking utter and complete nonsense.

Very true. Real theological debate has fallen by the wayside. I suspect one reason why those Catholics who used to debate, don't anymore is because the return is so paltry. There are still very good and knowledgeable Catholics here, to be sure, but they are receiving the same paltry return. I would say that each Catholic must post according to his conscience because one can never forget the lurkers, so for those who desire to do serious apologetics, God bless them.

For those Catholics who find entertainment in pointing out the ridiculous...well...I have a soft spot for them, too.

Not every question deserves an answer. Not every person who smiles at you has your best interests at heart.

And not every post on this Forum deserves a response.

Amen!
