"Fatima is a particularly significant place for this Pope," said Vatican spokesman Fr. Federico Lombardi on Tuesday, noting that it was also a destination for two former Popes. The Holy Father has a thorough knowledge of the history of the Marian sanctuary, he added.
Fr. Lombardi held a press conference at the Vatican to prepare the media for the Pope's next trip out of the Vatican. He will be visiting Portugal from May 11-14.
The spokesman referred to the Pope's stop in Fatima on May 13 as the highlight and "heart" of the upcoming four-day trip to Portugal, according to Vatican Radio. But, he pointed out, Benedict XVI will not be the first Pope to visit the Marian shrine.
Two other Pontiffs have been to Fatima. In 1967, the sanctuary hosted Paul VI, and John Paul II visited in 1982, 1991 and 2000, at which time the visionaries Jacinta and Francesco were beatified.
The Portuguese shrine is not unfamiliar to Pope Benedict, since as head of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, then-Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger extensively studied the message of Fatima. Fr. Lombardi said on Tuesday that the Pope has been involved with history of the Marian sanctuary in a "very deep, personal way."
It was him, for example, who was called upon to give a theological perspective when the third secret of Fatima was made public in 2000.
The Vatican spokesman said that the Holy Father will also deliver an intense message during his Fatima visit. Upon his arrival at the sanctuary on May 12, he will remember John Paul II and the 29th anniversary of the assassination attempt that nearly took his life on May 13, 1981.
This visit marks the Holy Father's 15th Apostolic Journey abroad in his five years and is his first to Portugal as Pope.
During today's general audience, the Holy Father greeted the people of Portugal in their language, telling them that he will be there this coming weekend at the invitation of the president of the nation and the episcopal conference.
He said he was "happy to be able to visit the 'land of Holy Mary'" on the 10th anniversary of the beatification of the shepherd children.
According to Portuguese press reports, local police are planning for a cumulative total of 450,000 people at the celebrations in Lisbon, Fatima and Portugal during the four-day visit.
That works for me. But unfortunately you've got to remember that 'katliks' are barely tolerated in some quarters and only if we keep our eveeeeeeeeil religion (nay, not religion, more like voodoo /sarc) to ourselves. You know, make sure that priests don't wear their clericals in public and that the sacraments are only practiced in private homes and not advertised.
After all, as one poster opined, if we didn't post blasphemy, he/she wouldn't have to respond. /puke
LOL!!!
Well, like just about everything else, he gets it backwards. Literally, in this case.
Et ego quoque in hac contumalia gaudeo.
“A lot of us Catholics, including the 30+ adults who came into full communion in my parish this past Easter, don’t see any such thing when they look at the Catholic Church.”
That’s why I’m pointing it out. If I could preach it to 30, 60, 90, 100000 people who are deceived I would do so in an instant. The “church” with the greatest number of followers is Satan’s. ‘Number’ arguments are meaningless.
“...the writer has no idea what he’s talking about.”
Then you need to go to the Word and see it yourself. Don’t play favorites with verses or books that the Vatican has cherry picked and distorted. Read the whole thing in knowledge that ALL of it is the Word of God and ALL of it needs to be heeded. Not just some parts here and twisted distortions of other parts there. Never take a sin-filled fallen Vatican man’s writings over the writings of say: Paul. They are not equal. Paul is to be heeded. Same goes for the Old Testament.
“But it makes me want to dismiss anything you say.”
I am only stating what is in the Word. I would actually rather you read it and see for yourself than take my word for it. I’m not here to win a popularity contest and it doesn’t matter to me if I am dismissed, but the Word must NEVER be dismissed. Those who dismiss God will be in big trouble! I can’t stress this enough. That is why it is so important to warn people and get the message out when a group of people are doing wrong and calling it Christian!
“When somebody seems very wrong about something I know about...”
“Seems” wrong? About what? What have I said that isn’t straight Bible?
“...it’s hard for me to believe him when he talks about something I might not know about.”
I may then know more than you about the Word because when I read it I did so knowing the whole thing was from God and not just the parts that some sin-filled fallen men in Rome could use to lend legitimacy to their idolatry and blasphemy.
Are they the ones who make the HTML go berserk?
>>and only if we keep our eveeeeeeeeil religion (nay, not religion, more like voodoo /sarc) to ourselves. <<
Reasonable people, who where taught class and decorum would not tolerate it.
The Jews are barely tolerated in many places, yet if one were to slam Jewish beliefs, a toss would be in quick order.
You know I’ve questioned it on here before and I’ve been told it would probably be allowed, but I really wonder if certain anti-Semitic slurs would be permitted on here the way anti-Catholic ones are.
I'm going to take this in two parts:
Reasonable people: There is absolutely no evidence to believe that some of them are.
who where taught class and decorum: either they weren't taught it, their teachers were horrible or they lack the ability to learn.
They are the LSD distributors. Dr. Timothy Leary was actually an alien, and was taken up into the mother ship after he ‘died’ and assumed another identity.
Your preaching would fall on deaf ears because your life and theology, as clearly demonstrated by the venom of your posts, is devoid of Beatitude.
I’ve seen people who even hint at it, get blasted on Sjackson’s threads.
And that is only right.
I know for a fact that it would not be. I know a fellow Catholic who created a user name and posted quoting anti-Catholic posts, substituting only Jew for Catholic, and was zotted very quickly.
I wonder how often they hang out with Louis Farrakhan.
>>either they weren’t taught it, their teachers were horrible or they lack the ability to learn.<<
I think it’s more the mob mentality.
One person tries something. Three people agree. One person gets rude. Four people see that it’s acceptable. Four people call two friends each. Suddenly it’s a mob.
It should be nipped in the bud. If this is truly a discussion forum, then smarmy posts and cutting graphics don’t add to the discussion.
I agree.
That's an implication that I have not read and do not read the Bible. Thank you again. Slander is a grace, and I thank God I am considered worthy to suffer contumely for the Name of Jesus.(Cf Acts 5:26) May I suggest you don't know how much I read and study the Bible?
... it doesnt matter to me if I am dismissed, but the Word must NEVER be dismissed. Those who dismiss God will be in big trouble!
To dismiss what you say is to dismiss what God says and, indeed, to dismiss God Himself?
I'm glad we cleared that up.
Are we now to accept that this is an example of acceptable anti-Catholic dialog?
For one thing -- only one -- you are saying that your interpretation of the Bible is authoritative. For another, that I put Mary above Jesus. For another, that to disagree with you is to dismiss God.
Claims like these make it unreasonable for me to believe you.
