That's a function of the State, not the church. For example, in New Hampshire you can get legally married at the age of 13.

Puget, Your criticisms of Reaganaut and the great state of New Hampshire are simple off base. New Hampshire residents under the age of 18 can only be married with parental consent AND a court order (see section 457:6). Like many of New Hampshire's laws, this one dates back to the colonial era. This a far cry from Utah's legal permissiveness toward minor children being traded off into marriages with only a parent's approval. By the way, Utah's marriage age law was amended as recently in 1999 so this is no historical accident. They must still like to get their wives while they are still young and impressionable.

So the State of NH will decide if a 13 YO can be married, but that is not an option in UT. Got it. Thus UT must be Mormon and support child brides, even though they have a higher minimum possible age for marriage.
