Truly, I believe it was a spiritual defeat for both the plaintiffs and the Catholic Church that the priest molestation cases ended up in civil courts. It should never have been necessary.

Yes, well. I am sure you do not hold the majority opinion, here. I do believe there are a number here who want to see any priest ACCUSED of molestation in jail for life, or dead. I don't hear a lot of cries that the rule of law be followed, or the rules of evidence, either, or that any accused priest be allowed to defend himself.

I'm not surprised by intense reaction to child molestation or child abuse and around here, abortion.

From my law enforcement relatives I understand that even hardened criminals - e.g. murderers - are outraged by child molestation. In prison, they are called "short eyes" and their life expectancy in the general population is very short.
