Nifonging the Catholic Church
me ^ | April 18, 2010 | vanity

Posted on 04/18/2010 9:49:35 PM PDT by Judith Anne

I seriously wonder about some FReepers, sometimes. Any other person accused of a crime would be defended by every FReeper as being innocent until proven guilty by a court of law. I've seen whole threads written by men who have been accused of child abuse by ex-wives out to deny them their visitation rights or to wrest more money out of them. These men are rightly indignant, and furious about the unjust accusations that cannot be proven but are never withdrawn.

Yet where are those FReepers when a PRIEST is accused? Where is the presumption of innocence? Suddenly, every accusation becomes a verdict, and not only the accused but his entire organization and all its adherents are held responsible.

I can only wonder what some of these so-called conservatives (who so faithfully defend the Constitution) would do, if THEY were the ones accused! It is a nightmare for any man -- all of you know how even the accusation stains the man forever, even if it is proven false!

Not only that, many here assert that the problems of 30, 40 and even 50 years ago must be tried in the media TODAY!

Remember the Duke rape case? There are more similarities than differences here. The priests are accused, nifonged, and instead of being defended, they are vilified!

What other man of you could stand under the weight of such an accusation trumpeted by the press, and come out whole? None! And such accusations made, LONG after the statute of limitations has passed, sometimes even after the accused is dead and buried for YEARS -- are YOU one of those who automatically, reflexively, spitefully, and gleefully act as judge, jury, and executioner?

Women! What if it were YOUR HUSBAND, YOUR BROTHER, YOUR FATHER, YOUR UNCLE, YOUR SON who was accused? Wouldn't you want the best defense possible? Wouldn't YOU believe in their innocence? Wouldn't YOU help protect your loved ones as much as possible? And yet, YOU JUDGE THE CHURCH FOR DOING WHAT YOU WOULD DO?

Shame! Vast shame! On all who have sinned against the innocent!

INDEED.

You’d think that some of our frequent posters hereon have no clue about what

AS

WE FORGIVE

means, in English!

sigh.

No. It’s not sick at all.

It is redemptive, healing, Godly raising a child up in the way the child should go.

It is being lovingly compassionate toward the child and responsible to the child and to God for the child’s wholeness and healthy training, healing and maturing.

BTW, I’d have thought that someone of your training would have known that kids usually do fine—even with some pretty horrendous abuse—DEPENDING ON THE RESPONSES OF THE ADULTS AROUND THEM. They do worst when the adults freak out the most. They do best when adults handle it in a matter of fact, human events, process of life, healing process sort of way.

Indeed.

Though I’ve never found a way to bore a hole and pour it in for some folks.

We’ve already dealt with the false accusation about

FORCED.

Which letter is hard to understand?

I ?

D ?
o ?
n ?
‘ ?
t ?

b ?
e ?
l ?
i ?
e ?
v ?

i ?

f ?

r ?
c ?

g ?

a ?

y ?

in such matters.

It MUST BE AUTHENTIC to the highest the individual can consciously will and intend—else it’s worthless.

And, normally, I don’t have any great need for the child to forgive the person face to face at all. Doing so in one of their nightly prayers to God would suffice. At some point, perhaps a short letter would be fitting.

As a great book title instructs . . .

DON’T WASTE YOUR SORROWS.

It is a crucial point.

Actually, I’ve repeatedly observed . . . and wonder if A-G, OS and BB have . . . ???

I’ve observed that

WHEN the Christian FORGIVES the offender and the offense,

THEN and often seemingly only then

DOES GOD SEEM TO HAVE A FREER HAND IN DISCIPLINING THE OFFENDER.

It is almost as though our unforgiveness binds them up in some sort of space that God won’t touch near as fully as He will when we have forgiven and let it go.

So, actually, IF someone wants God to lower the boom on an offender quickest and most severely, they’d jolly well best forgive as quickly and fully as they can manage, with His help.

I’ve seen it over and over.

Have y’all?

VERY WONDERFULLY AND BIBLICALLY PUT.

THANKS TONS.

I don’t think folks hereon appreciate the seriousness of bitterness and unforgiveness—CERTAINLY IN TERMS OF ETERNAL LIFE.

BUT ALSO in terms of physical illness that results—arthritis is but one that has often been correlated with bitterness and resentment.

Then you do admit that the belief that the Gospels are nice, but Paul is necessary is wrong?

How on earth could you have possibly drawn that conclusion? Peter is telling everyone to listen to Paul. This is a fact you seem to be ignoring.

VERY VERY EXCELLENT.

I agree wholeheartedly.

There are a number of stories where whole families were murdered except maybe for a parent and one child out of a large family . . . or all the children . . . or some such

and the remaining Christian loved ones determined to forgiven the murderer and even to reach out to him in prison. Most have seen those murderers come to a Saving knowledge of Christ Jesus.

THAT IS THE GREATEST VENGEANCE—ON SATAN who

USED TO HAVE

the murderer under his evil sway.

CHRIST SET THE MODEL AND PATTER FOR FORGIVENESS ON THE CROSS:

FATHER, FORGIVE THEM, FOR THEY KNOW NOT WHAT THEY DO.

Are we followers of CHRIST

really “CHRIST-IANS”

or not?

I have heard that as well and have seen that in action.

I don’t understand exactly how that works, but.....

Romans 12:17-21 Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,”says the Lord. On the contrary:

“If your enemy is hungry, feed him;
if he is thirsty, give him something to drink.

In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

No.

It’s healing and redemptive.

Particularly when done in a good faith kind of way, God is very faithful to move and touch the child’s heart and mind. Very often the child then moves on wholly free and healed.

They don’t have to spend endless nights for years of childhood with interminable nightmares and angst.

Forgiving someone is the quickest way to cause them to stop controlling your life any more.

Not forgiving lets them continue to control you and continue to abuse or violate you.

If you don’t forgive, it will eat you alive and if they’re really that bad, even if they knew, they wouldn’t care. Matter of fact, they’d probably enjoy knowing that they got your goat. Nothing annoys a bully more than being ignored.

INDEED! EXCELLENT:

Yes that is the difficult part.

In a situation where we are in constant contact with a person who sinned against us, the point of forgiveness becomes quite clear.

If we keep badgering the person to apologize etc instead of forgiving them, it makes it harder for them to hear God’s still quite voice over our “spiritual” nagging.

I have seen in many instances a person going to God with confession of sin when the offended person forgives and gives that person and their sin to God.

It’s also a marriage counseling tactic, having each person looking to improve themselves instead of the other.

Works great!

Oh?

As she asserted on this thread . . . she believes one should extract a repentant confession from the offender before forgiving them.

Are you saying you don’t agree with that

at all?

ABSOLUTELY INDEED AND VERY WELL PUT:

Even very damaged children are quite smart and able to understand those simple truths that can heal them.

With calmness and patience it can be done, and it is not “forcing”

Again:

1. The forcing accusation was bearing false witness. Has not ever been true in my convictions etc. on the matter.

2. Children are very very capable of understanding forgiveness and extending it in a way that helps them lay the whole tragedy much more thoroughly aside in a freeing, cleansing, healing, redemptive way. Usually they do it much more quickly and much more fully than adults do. And, they typically move on much more healed and freely as well.
