I seriously wonder about some FReepers, sometimes. Any other person accused of a crime would be defended by every FReeper as being innocent until proven guilty by a court of law. I've seen whole threads written by men who have been accused of child abuse by ex-wives out to deny them their visitation rights or to wrest more money out of them. These men are rightly indignant, and furious about the unjust accusations that cannot be proven but are never withdrawn.
Yet where are those FReepers when a PRIEST is accused? Where is the presumption of innocence? Suddenly, every accusation becomes a verdict, and not only the accused but his entire organization and all its adherents are held responsible.
I can only wonder what some of these so-called conservatives (who so faithfully defend the Constitution) would do, if THEY were the ones accused! It is a nightmare for any man -- all of you know how even the accusation stains the man forever, even if it is proven false!
Not only that, many here assert that the problems of 30, 40 and even 50 years ago must be tried in the media TODAY!
Remember the Duke rape case? There are more similarities than differences here. The priests are accused, nifonged, and instead of being defended, they are vilified!
What other man of you could stand under the weight of such an accusation trumpeted by the press, and come out whole? None! And such accusations made, LONG after the statute of limitations has passed, sometimes even after the accused is dead and buried for YEARS -- are YOU one of those who automatically, reflexively, spitefully, and gleefully act as judge, jury, and executioner?
Women! What if it were YOUR HUSBAND, YOUR BROTHER, YOUR FATHER, YOUR UNCLE, YOUR SON who was accused? Wouldn't you want the best defense possible? Wouldn't YOU believe in their innocence? Wouldn't YOU help protect your loved ones as much as possible? And yet, YOU JUDGE THE CHURCH FOR DOING WHAT YOU WOULD DO?
Shame! Vast shame! On all who have sinned against the innocent!
They have seduced the weak and the foolish to the dark side. There are several here who brag of causing sheep to leave the fold of Jesus in favour of their own particular shepherd. Yet, there are many on here who have given their own stories of how it was through adversity or through examples of Catholic faith, that they finally put aside family and friends, gave it all up, and followed Christ, as He instructed us. They took up their cross and followed Him. I am humbled to see the extent of their own sacrifice. They exemplify the commands of Christ more than I.
“”We see many of the fools and the fooled.””
Yes ,Mark. This is why Prayer at Adoration is so important.
We must be vigilant in prayer for these people for hearts to change
And I am in agreement with that prayer!
Anything I can do to help! I can ignore 'em with the best of 'em! ;o)
The imputability or responsibility for an action can be diminished or nullified by ignorance, duress, fear, and other psychological or social factors. If they were truly foolish or feeble then they will be forgiven. If they were never devout they were never really Catholics to begin with.
I am happy to state that through God's leading in my search for truth, I have moved miles away from the Catholic Church and closer to the Lord. It was by reading the Gospel for myself and God's Spirit illuminating his truth of salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ.
I suppose that if you worship Mary, it would be heresy. However, since all have sinned and come short of the glory of God and Mary is just a human being as the rest of us are, while she is highly favored and blessed in that she was chosen to bear the Messiah, there is NOTHING, not one thing in Scripture that supports the Catholic teachings about her and things like her perpetual virginity and alleged immaculate conception. She was not sinless.
She is NOT the mother of the church. There is NO Scripture basis for that at all.
Essentially, she had the right lineage. I don't doubt that there could have been many other women could have been as well qualified to bear the Messiah except for that.
Thank you both.
And with that, I will bid you adieu for the night.
says, "You've gotta be kidding, right?"
Fortunately for your soul, we are going metric.
God's Spirit illuminating his truth of salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ.
Odd. That's what the Church teaches.
Given that, I may be able to inform you of what the Church actually is, rather than what the old ladies of both sexes and all ages of the Protestant Reformation claim it is.
THX THX.
LIKEWISE FOR YOU AND YOURS.
I appreciate your kind response and affirmation.
We have a long and labourious task. Even the good burghers of Geneva fell to such as this.
OK, but I made an exception for the feeble or not devout.
INDEED.
AND
God could have raised up a suitably righteous woman of the right lineage from any old rock in the area just as He could have raised up children of Abraham from said rocks as Christ said.
Then there is hope for many here. God be praised.
If they were never devout they were never really Catholics to begin with.
That saddens me, since that encompasses so many.
I don’t believe that I have ever labelled the OPC a ‘sect’. The correct term would be ‘cult’. You’re welcome.
Would the last phrase not be redundant? And as for the first, we are called on to be our brothers' keeper. Even the odd brother that soils himself and is kept in the nursing home for his own and also society's protection.
And then forgotten.
Could have, would have, should have. The point is that He did what He did. And Mary said what?
Luke 1: 38 Mary said, "Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word." Then the angel departed from her.
Mary told the angel that she would do what God asked. Never mind what God could have done. This is what happened according to Luke. How will Mary be Judged? Better than anyone I know personally and definitely here on the FR RF.
Very good. Perhaps in your dotage you may recall my remarks as to the OPC cult and then repent of your sins and become Christian. That will have made it all worthwhile - to persuade another Prodigal Daughter to return to Christ. If you ever feel like making that leap, I'd appreciate a PM, just because. Until then, we will post at odds, since, on the Religion Forum, I am called to post the Christian point of view, and in the words of Augustine, Against Heresies.
Perhaps the lord of this world may give you ears to hear and eyes to see. him anyway.
