The illegal immigration stance is fine, but he can keep his “euro-socialism”. It only subverts the role of the Church, stifles charity and limits freedom. It’s amazing how smart folks can’t see that about socialism when dummies like me can.
Freegards
I was waiting for someone to bring this up. It's a bit of a conundrum. It's one thing for the clergy and the religious, who, BY A CHOICE OF FREE WILL, live in community where the resources are pooled within the community for the good of the people in it, to do so out of love for the Almighty. It's quite another to endorse such a system on a state-wide scale that undermines property rights, the teachings on generosity and charity, personal responsibility, morality, etc. Honestly, we've surrendered what was originally a church endeavor - the hospital and charitable treatment - to the state, and in the long run, it's stifled morality and true charitable access.
This is one of my peeves re the Church at this time in history - clergy generally (not all, but most) went into the seminaries and convents at 18 without any real world experience and they're espousing what they know on a scale that doesn't really work effectively outside of the microcosms. I just wish someone with some sense could start whispering that in a few ears and maybe get it to sink in.
