Today, President Obama signed his health care bill into law, using 20 separate pens to write his name.

The last pen he used, reports Daniel Foster, will be given to Sister Carol Keehan, president and CEO of the Catholic Health Association.

Sr. Keehan, as most of you know, was a staunch ally of the Democrat efforts to push through their health care reform. She issued press releases on behalf of her organization asking representatives in Congress to pass the legislation, even without including abortion funding fixes (which they did). She met with Obama personally several days before the final vote in Congress, she contacted individual congressmen and assuaged their conscience that they could vote for the bill as-is, etc

And Stupak and the "sisters" at Network and Sr. Carol Keehan know that.

It does not trump a legislative act, and all it will take to overturn it is one lawsuit from a woman who wants a publicly-funded prenatal homicide: a lawsuit for which, you may be sure, the plaintiff has already been recruited, the lawyers lined up, the briefs written and the judge bought.

Stupak KNOWS this. Christ Almighty. It’s like getting an Executive Order from Tiger Woods saying “From here on in, I’m vowed to celibacy all the way” or from Colonel Sanders saying “I will not cut up chickens.”

BTW, did you know that Sr. Carol Keehan's annual income as the Catholic Health Association CEO is over (Link) $800,000 a year? As my father used to say, "If that's poverty, I'd like to see the chastity."

Catholic hospitals, many of which have one foot out the door of the Church, or are led by non-Catholics.

The hospitals themselves get large swathes of money from the government at all levels.

Dues from the 600 Catholic health centers, clinics, etc. which are members. I don't know if CHA represents some, most, many, or all Catholic health "entities." My assumption --- just a guess-- would be "most, but not all." In any case, CHA is a separately-incorporated trade organization and political lobby, not a canonical organization.

I would expect Sister Keehan to place the pen in an ornate reliquary, and give it a place of prominence in the convent chapel. (If she still lives in a convent, and if they still have something resembling a chapel.)

Soon there will be accounts of miraculous cures and healings from "the Obama Health Care Pen" and DemoCaths will make pilgrimages in Hope of a blessing.

Perhaps it will even cause spontaneous abortions in women "punished" with pregnancy.
