Applause.

The sola scriptura belief is not supported by verses such as this. John 14 is Jesus addressing his Church officials. John 15 continues. And John 16 and 17 finishes His address to His disciples before His Passion.

The Holy Spirit will direct the Church; it is not a Church of mere words; it is a Church of men directed by God. I bow to you for your selection. It is very good.

Thanks but I thought I was actually addressing your question of why Jesus did not leave us his own writings. He said the Holy Spirit would reveal and bring back to mind his words of truth to those that would be writing the NT.

I was not quoting these to support sola scriptura - not that there aren't plenty that do support it. :o)
