Interesting discussion the other evening with my bi-ritual (Maronite and Latin Rite) pastor. Following VCII, the Eastern Catholic Churches followed
ajournamento to modify their liturgies in accordance with the new council documents. The Eastern Churches, however, were reluctant to purge their liturgies of many prayers which remain to this day. When my pastor says the NO liturgy at a local hospital, he seeks out longer prayers in the sacramentary. He recited several of the prayers from the daily NO liturgy to demonstrate the lack of any true reflection.
I have not yet previewed the video but thought you might be interested in watching it. The Maronite Divine Liturgy is about 75 minutes and that is with a small congregation receiving communion. Only the priest administers the Eucharist.
I’m puzzled at the use of English. Maybe the priest is sending a message to us in the West (esp. America) that, “there are Christian over here in the Middle East, don’t forget about us.”
