I do understand your point.
Tradition is very important, for me however it is why we have Communion as the most important.
I have been to churches where they actually sit around a big table passing flat bread around for people to break off a small piece and a large carafe of grape juice each person pours in their small cups.
I have been to churches where a tiny plastic cup has grape juice sealed with a tiny cracker on top of the cup.
And of course everything in between.
I love communion and the scripture that goes with the ceremony. I am always humbled that Jesus loved me enough when I am not good enough to sacrifice Himself for me a sinner. Thank you Jesus.

Why we have communion is also why the elements are important, they are symbolic.
