I think by saying “It is finished”, Jesus was referring to the fact that his sacrifice was complete.

He certainly continued to teach beyond that moment, as did His apostles.

In the original Greek of the New testament, the word is “tetelestai” which was used on documents at the time, meaning “paid in full”.
