Apparently intelligence does not provide a shield against the deceit of Satan. I think God planned it that way. We are never smart enough to do it on our own, but we can be so smart we THINK we can. When I was mormon, this saying was heard often..."The glory of God is intelligence"...Doctrine and Covenants 93:36
Funny, I haven't run across that statement in all my research for a long time.

It’s interesting too that the LDS describe our pre-earthly existance as “intelligences”. It’s sort of flattering, if one believes that “Heavenly Father” and (one of many?)Heavenly Mother had some sort of heavenly union and bore all us spirit children, and we’re described as “intelligences”.
