re: The general populace is not as stupid regarding spiritual issues as the Catholic Church likes to present it as.

The general populace is stupid. Why do you think that they voted for Obama and McCain, and Communists?

“There are as many sects now and beliefs as there are heads. This fellow has nothing to do with baptism. Another one denies the sacraments. A third believes there is another world between this one and the last day. Some teach that Christ is not God. Some say this, some say that. There is no rustic so rude that if he dreams or fancies anything believes it must be the whisper of the Holy Spirit and that he himself must be a prophet.” (Martin Luther)

If you concede that some men may be holier than others, wiser than others, or have assistance from the Holy Spirit not enjoyed by each individual, or if you concede that generations of men laboring down the centuries may add to and refine our understanding of the Scriptures in a way no single lifetime would allow...

Well, then, it becomes impossible to claim that one’s own understanding is as good as anyone else’s, or that one can open up the Bible on any old day and read any scripture, and understand it completely and correctly.

As G. K. Chesterton wrote, “There is no other case of one continuous intelligent institution that has been thinking about thinking for two thousand years. Its experience naturally covers nearly all experiences; and especially nearly all errors. The result is a map in which all the blind alleys and bad roads are clearly marked, all the ways that have been shown to be worthless by the best of all evidence: the evidence of those who have gone down them.”

To maintain faith in YOPIOS, one must cavalierly dismiss twenty centuries of the spiritual and intellectual work product of history’s greatest minds and holiest men as nothing more than something done by other men.

My only point was that it was a poorly phrased question. Ofcourse Mormons are not Christians but cult members but there are certainly non-Christians who dislike the two 19 yearold goofballs in white shirts and ties calling themselves elders and knocking on doors.

Interestingly, Catholics tend to be Democrats and vote Democratic.

To maintain faith in YOPIOS, one must cavalierly dismiss twenty centuries of the spiritual and intellectual work product of history’s greatest minds and holiest men as nothing more than something done by other men.

I'm not even going to get started on the history of the Roman Catholic Church. It's already common knowledge.

I like “honey”. It's good in tea, and on morning buns. Local of course is better than that stuff on the grocery shelves.

That's what you're appealing to.

Well, then, it becomes impossible to claim that one’s own understanding is as good as anyone else’s, or that one can open up the Bible on any old day and read any scripture, and understand it completely and correctly.

Then those you hold up as *holy* or *spiritual* are in just the same situation.

Well, MM if we talk about anything (anything at all) that isn’t lds, then we don’t have to talk about why lds are not Christians. I am beginning to think that lds learn that tactic in a class. Its just so sad there is no coffee and sweets at those meetings.

re: What then would you say about the dozens and dozens of lds group who claim to be the true lds?

I don't really care about Mormons one way or another, they are just one of LEGION of false religions, like Protestantism, Mohammedanism, Judaism, Hinduism, animism etc.

The gist of Catholic Dictionary definition of Christian is that the word Christian no longer has any meaning, AND Protestantism has not defined what constitutes a Christian, therefore, anyone can call THEMSELVES a Christian, it says nothing.

Yes, the Church will always teach the truth .. as long as it is the true church of Jesus Christ

That is not what Scripture says. You are just making that up.

Many of you seem to be confusing “Anti-Mormon” with “Non-Mormon”.

The article is very clear if you read it.

It simply brings into light that Anti-Mormons (like a few on here) aren’t behaving in a Christ-like manner at all.

You know, a lot of Catholics on FR try to weasel out of saying that the Catholic Church teaches that those who are not Catholic are not Christian and not going to heaven.

We can all see now that it IS what the Catholic church teaches.

Thanks for clearing that up for us.
