Romans 4

1What then shall we say that Abraham, our forefather, discovered in this matter? 2If, in fact, Abraham was justified by works, he had something to boast about—but not before God. 3What does the Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.”

4Now when a man works, his wages are not credited to him as a gift, but as an obligation. 5However, to the man who does not work but trusts God who justifies the wicked, his faith is credited as righteousness. 6David says the same thing when he speaks of the blessedness of the man to whom God credits righteousness apart from works:

7”Blessed are they
whose transgressions are forgiven,
whose sins are covered.

8Blessed is the man
whose sin the Lord will never count against him.”

And I know some Baptists who aren’t.

Wouldn’t you agree that someone who believes in Jesus Christ as the Son of God and Redeemer of mankind through his Atonement, maybe someone that is, say, Christian?

Just because similar words are used does not imply that the same definition is attached to them.

Who is Jesus Christ stinker? Is He a former spirit child, the ontological brother of satan and us?

Or is He, God the Son, eternal second Person of the Trinity?

You see, words have meaning. The same comparison's can be made comparing mormon vs Christian definitions of Redeemer, Atonement, etc. The meanings are NOT the same. Trusting in and following a fictitious Christ will result in a fictitious salvation, no matter how sincere we may be.

Agreed, although I believe the early Gnostics were an intergral part of the tenets of early Christianity that got bumped out as time progressed...magritte

Are people who come up with titles like this capable of rational thought?

That is a common view, on that has been debated often in the last 30 years.

Academically, I am in the camp that sees them as separate, and pre-Christian groups that later adopted some tenants of Christianity in an attempt to integrate, rather than being considered Christian and then removed by a hierarchy.

***Are Anti-Mormons Christians?***

Not necessarily.

But Christians are anti-mormon.

(I’m sure I’m not the first to make that observation, but I don’t feel like wading through scores of posts to see)

Interesting take...do you see that as similar as to what Mormons have been doing?

“Notwithstanding all of the above, Latter-day Saints are, and continue to be, more than willing to allow these folk the right to call themselves Christians. All we ask is that they return the same courtesy.”

Sorry Charlie, only people who believe in the Jesus Christ of the Bible get to be Christians.

Hindus don’t, unless they convert.
Hare Krishnas don’t, unless they convert.
Muslims don’t, unless they convert.
Buddhists don’t, unless they convert.
Scientologists? Nope, unless they convert.
Pagans? Wiccans? Witches? Warlocks? Voodoo practioners? No, no, no, no, and no - unless they convert!

Why in the world would mormons be any different?

No Jesus Christ as revealed in the Bible = no ability to save anyone else = no salvation = no gospel = not Christian.

Here’s your choice:

Mormon Jesus: a created spirit being (not god), who was born as a human (not god), who worked his way upwards and eventually became part of the pantheon of mormonite gods - one among potentially billions of gods. No salvation there.

Christian Jesus Christ: ALWAYS GOD from eternity. Never created or made. An infinite and holy life laid down to pay the penalty for the sins of mankind to all who receive this grace by faith.

Put faith in the wrong thing and your faith is USELESS to save. Mormonism teaches a false Christ.

The REAL Jesus Christ is available RIGHT NOW to all who call on Him.

best,
ampu

No minds will be changed through these internet discussions.

You would be surprised. I know two LDS who have since left and become Christians because of the ‘anti-mormon’ group here on FR.

You would be surprised.

And countless others have been inoculated against Mormonism...they were susceptible to the Mormon sales pitch, but not anymore

The infiltration? Yes, I do. I also am doing some research on Gnostic doctrines in Mormon theology.

Your response is in regard to my post #21 which follows. Please point out to me EXACTLY what you consider to be ‘mean and nasty’ about it?

#21

Hogwash. The whole premise of the LDS church is the need for a ‘restoration’ because of a “Universal apostasy”. I can cite several sources and give you years of experience where the LDS say ‘well WE are the only “TRUE” Christians, and the Gentiles are apostates’, starting with the First Vision.

Did you take out your endowments prior to the 1990 changes, when the minister was still a hireling of Satan.

Doctrine determines if a group/person is a Christian or not. The LDS want to be considered Christian, their history and doctrine is up for the same scrutiny as any other group would be.
