Based upon his answers - which I was trying to get clarified.
Evangelical Christians believe that their works are important in their salvation, that without their works, they cant be saved, why others believe that works have nothing to do with salvation?
I know of no Evangelical Christian denominations that require works to be saved. You will need to be specific regarding who you are addressing on that part, I can be specific in my answer. Why other believe no works can obtain salvation is scripturally based - Paul covers it all over the NT.
I have had several Evangelical friends tell me that they believe that it’s not grace alone, though they are in the minority.
This one friend invited me to attend a Wednesday meeting at her church. I don’t know what congregation she went to. This was several years ago and it was a small congregation only about 100 or so members that attended regularly. There were like 60 there that night. when most of the congregation found out that I was Mormon, they glared at me.
I have to assume that it was an Evangelical congregation since they all said they were Evangelicals and, IIRC, the name of the church had “Evangelical” in it, but that doesn’t mean much.
The preacher very specifically said that it wasn’t by grace alone, that we needed to have works to be saved. He even used the phrase that I know upsets a lot of “grace only” type people, and that was “cheap grace.” That is why I even remember the sermon. I never thought I would ever hear an evangelical preacher use the term “cheap grace.”
