Philadelphia, PA December 18, 2009 The Catholic Medical Association (CMA), together with the Omaha Guild of the CMA, issued a statement of support for Senator Ben Nelson (D-Neb.) for his integrity in opposing federal funding of abortion in the Senate version of health-care legislation and called upon Catholic organizations to remain united in opposing federal funding of abortion.
CMA President Louis C. Breschi, M.D. issued this statement:
"The CMA is grateful to Senator Ben Nelson for insisting that ironclad provisions prohibiting federal funding of abortion be inserted in the Senate bill before it is allowed to move forward. Indeed, we think that all Catholic Senators should realize the significance of their vote on this issue and should join Senator Nelson in opposing abortion funding."
"While some attempts at compromise have been put forward, for example, by Senator Bob Casey of Pennsylvania, serious questions have been raised about whether such compromises truly bar federal funding of abortion. Unfortunately, it appears that at least one Catholic association has preemptively endorsed the Casey compromisebefore even seeing the actual legislative language. Since Senator Casey has not released his amendment, we are unable to provide our own analysis. Therefore, in this matter, we take our guidance from recognized experts in the field, including the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. USCCB legislative representative Richard Doerflinger has stated that none of the proposals address the fundamental concern of the use of taxpayer money to subsidize insurance that includes coverage of abortion. Given this analysis, we call upon all Catholic health-care providers and organizations to remain united in unequivocal opposition to federal funding of abortion and in support for authentic health-care reform."
Jude Cook, M.D., president of the Omaha Guild of the Catholic Medical Association, commented:
"Nebraskans are strongly pro-life, and so we are grateful to Senator Nelson for representing the cause of life, and the views of his constituents. Nebraskans know we need authentic health-care reform but abortion isnt health care, and any bill that funds abortions is not authentic reform. We call upon Senator Nelson to stay the course and insist that all avenues for federal funding of abortion be blocked before considering whether to vote for the bill."

that nebraska a$$hole had so much integrity he sold his vote
what is this “CMA” suddenly making the headlines today
I posted it as a counterpoint to some drivel from an outfit calling itself the "Catholic Health Association".
This does not make sense to have an article dated March 15 after he has already sold himself.
“Integrity” and “Ben Nelson” are mutually exclusive terms.
Ben got his thirty pieces of silver. This is the land of traitors and liars now.
Sorry, our posts must have crossed in space. I figured it out after I saw your first expalnation.
