I didn’t see the point of Marian devotion, either - although I had no objections to it for others ;-) - until I had my own children.

I agree - I do not understand why a person would not at least wish to show Jesus’s mother the natural respect we’d show anyone’s mother.

The problem is, people don’t go around showing natural respect to anyone’s mother by bestowing lofty titles on them, kneeling in front of and lighting candles to statues of them, reciting rote prayers over and over to them, and doing all this in an effort to add to the Saving Grace of Christ or to supersede Christ.

Most of us DO show her love and respect, we just don’t venerate her as you do. It’s always JESUS we should be lifting up, not his dear mother.
