the word DOUEY RHEIMS translates as penance is
metanoeō
1) to change one's mind, i.e. to repent
2) to change one's mind for better, heartily to amend with abhorrence of one's past sins
The greek word is not Penance it is repentance..
Both of these posts (#74 & #78), offer clear, persuasive rebuttals to the RCC silly claims that Peter was an original “pope” or that the Scriptures support an ongoing “penance”. While these may continue to fall on deaf ears of Catholics (proving only God can open hearts and minds), the rest of us appreciate the great information.
And about now certain RCs will ask if I have a “gerbil in my pocket.” This is apparently their idea of evangelism.
