My post was directed towards both Reno232 and you. Thank you for staying within the guidelines.
I’m happy that Catholics and Mormons, despite theological differences, are working together to protect and advance conservative social issues, aren’t you?
I believe Greyfoxx39 has set up another open thread for antagonistic posts on the same subject. If you want to post antagnostic threads, please go there. This was intended as an ecumencial thread celebrating that Catholics and Mormons have joined forces to advance/protect conservative social issues. I’m happy with the concerted efforts.
Very good.
RE working together on social issues, I am not a Catholic, however because of the incompatable theologies between mormonism and Catholism I would caution Catholic Christians to be careful who they are bedding with.

It's a good thing. Absolutely.
Being given that we’re talking about social issues here, are you cautioning Catholics to be careful who they’re bedding with on those issues, or just doctrinal issues?
I am not being antagonistic. Ecumenical threads are for polite academic discussion of the article, not just agreement. That is what I am doing.
Just because I do not agree, does not mean I am antagonistic.
What I see happening here is why some conservatives HATE the idea of Ecumenism. I am normally all for it but NOT if it involves compromising essential doctrinal beliefs. If it includes non believers then it is not ‘ecumenicism’.
Wouldn’t you agree?
I caution any Christian to be involved in Ecumenical agreements with any faith that they do not consider Christian (basically non-believers).
Ecumenism outside of the guidelines of doctrine often leads to liberalism.
Both, the social issue - say abortion - is intwined to doctrinal issues. The bedding down - do mormons want the Catholics to adjust / accept mormon theology of the pre-existance of the spirit, something the Catholics do not hold too.
Second point is that it is my belief that mormons will attempt to exploit this joining together on 'social' issues to enhance their missionary efforts as they tried to earlier with the evangelicals that spoke in slc some time ago.
Guess we'll have to wait and see if the 'relationship' lasts
Agree, most ecumenical 'agreements' generally result in downgrading or subugating doctrines.

And that is the danger in certain alliances.
So, would it be your position that conservative Christians as a whole should not team up w/ Mormons on these issues, that you should go at it on your own without our assistance?
Interesting. Again, thanks for making my point. A point I’ve been making for some time here. Dividing conservatives?
Done much for conservatism today? I believe you think you have.
I doubt that the combined efforts of Catholics and Mormons to protect/advance conservative social issues will result in any compromise of their respective theology.
Is that why Utah is one of the most conservative states?
Thanks for weighing in on the issue. I share your sentiment. Working together will help protect conservative principles involving the family and protecting the unborn.
I hope so.
That is not what I said, so stop the mind reading games Reno. IF different 'conservative' groups (and I don't consider Catholics as conservative - just look at their voting record as a block), they better go in with their eyes wide open.

Right - again with the mind reading. I've done far more that YOUR little thinking. And mormonism isn't the citidel of conservatism either (harry reid)
It will give mormonism pr status in their missionary efforts - see here is a cardinal speaking to us - we can all be friends, we offer what you have in Catholism and more. That is where the compromise attempts will come from.
If Utah is so conservative, why did it go so far for RINO Romney?
And there is very little Ecumenism between the LDS and other faiths in Utah. I know a lot of pastors there and lived there for years. It is “LDS” vs. “Gentile” for the most part.
