***Scofield Reference Bible***

I quit using mine twelve years ago, preferring to use bibles without notes.

Haven’t used mine in a month of years either. I no longer hold to the Dispensational theology that permeates the Scofield notes, which is of course tied in with the pretribulational rapture view. I have come to believe that the view that Scripture is divided into seven “dispensations” is a modern, parochial, and artificial imposition on the biblical text.

I find the notes on a good study Bible helpful, especially cross-references. I also believe we should make use of tools such as Bible dictionaries, etc., to aid in Bible study. However, as time goes by I find myself reading the Bible devotionally rather than studying the original Hebrew & Greek meaning of the words, etc. I.e., I attempt to humbly approach the Scriptures to see what the “word of the Lord” would be for me in my present circumstances.
