Tim Keller is PCA as I am ..but I do not like him or his contextualization of the gospel . He also is in opposition to PCA’s stand on womens role in the church , he has women deascons and he has women at the podium often.. The most recent issue is he is bringing in Catholic mystical meditation, Thomas Merton type.. He responds to tickling ears.. IMHO

Oh, and he’s as far from Joel Osteen as you can possibly imagine.

You are right, he is doctrinally pretty straight, he is no Olsteen .His church is not saddleback redux..

But as a Calvinist I do not believe one has contextualization of the gospel for it to be understood, I believe that is the work of God on a regenerate heart

Then again, according to your profile, Charles Finney John Wesley were apostate ... so your little corner of heaven probably won't be too crowded.

The three Redeemer churches, each with its own pastor, would serve as “regeneration centers,” Keller said, which would “plant” still more churches throughout Manhattan. Since coming to New York, Redeemer has helped start some 65 churches of various Protestant denominations, many of them of the small “storefront” variety, serving minority neighborhoods in and outside Manhattan...

WOW! What a praise.

Do you imagine that the thousands of folks who heard the message of Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross and accepted the gift of salvation through Osteen’s ministry are not “really saved”?

Please do not put words into my mouth. I said no such thing.

God will save whom He chooses, for His good pleasure and in His good time. If God chooses to use the vehicle of Joel Osteen, well, that's God's prerogative.

It doesn't change the fact that Joel Osteen's health-and-wealth prosperity message is on the bare ragged edge of heresy.

We read/discussed it with our teens last summer.

Reason for God is a good book. Well-reasoned, but not with intent to beat down by intellectual argument.

There is no question that salvation is God's work alone. No one questions that. However, contextualization gets a little murkier. Is it "contextualization" to have sermons preached and Scriptures read in English instead of Greek, Hebrew, and Aramaic?

As I've said on other threads, there's nothing wrong with changing the vehicle to move the message. There's EVERYTHING wrong with changing the message to fit the vehicle.

I certainly hope so. Hope he doesn’t bat his eyes like Osteen.

Dr. Keller gave a talk to Google in 2008. The talk was based on "The Reason for God".

Bare, ragged edge? What? How about “Rocketing off the cliff and heading into the darkest pit” of heresies.

Why is Romans 16:1 noted as meaning “deaconess” in regard to Phebe?

No that is TRANSLATION ...a big difference .

Contextualization would mean changing Jesus as shepherd of the sheep into an Indian whaler whaling
