The Bible says everybody loves a peace maker. Good work ravingnutter. I’m being serious by the way.

So I was actually right the first time yesterday, you are one of those obnoxious arrogant Catholics that bash non-Catholics simply because they don't adhere to your beliefs and traditions. No, you are wrong. I am one of those obnoxious, arrogant Catholics who don't appreciate having my beliefs attacked and disrespected. It is not my problem if people don't adhere to my beliefs and traditions. All I ask is respect and common decency. And of that I am not ashamed.

My point in posting that was not to argue for or against evangelical christianity. It was to illustrate how offensive, ugly, hateful, intolerant and unchristian the original post was.

I did not see this post of yours until after I had already posted a response to you. If you really feel that way, then you should place this disclaimer at the bottom of your original post for clarification instead of letting it stand on its own which only made you look just as hateful as the original poster.

The beginning of my post said, "Just to show that you aren't the only one who can be hateful and offensive..."

Well, if you were a person that worshiped a rock in the middle of desert and bowed down to it 5 times per day ....... I would say that you worship a weak god.

I left the Roman Catholic Church because of its disregard for the Word of God. Should any be inclined to take issue with that statement relative to the attitude of the Catholic Church, let me remind you that the Catholic Church maintains that "the Bible is a dead letter and unable to interpret itself."

How can anyone survey the conflicting gaggle of modern voices all claiming to understand Scripture and seriously claim that the Bible "interprets itself"??

I mean look at what "personal interpretation" has brought us.

Confusion.

As for the "dead letter" jibe, this person is either a liar or an uncatechized idiot.

Saw this posted yesterday .... seems fitting here too:

People say all the time “I don’t agree with the Church on some things.” That’s fine. To me, that’s an opportunity to do some reading, check in with a priest, pray, or talk to some religious friends. When faced with an issue where my own thinking doesn’t match up to the Church’s I think to myself - here we have two thousand years of the greatest thinking by some of the greatest minds guided by the Holy Spirit vs. something that popped into my head last Tuesday that felt kinda’ right at the time. You know what, I’m going to give the benefit of the doubt to the Church on that one.

You wrote:

“I am always puzzled that so many Roman Catholics can visit the vatican, to see the elaborate display of embarassing wealth, then to see the hundreds of homeless, helpless beggars outside the wall... and come away with joy.”

Simple. 1) We know scripture. Jesus reminds us in scripture that we will always have the poor. It was Judas who wanted to deprive Christ of an “elaborate display of embarrassing wealth” (see John 12:4-6). You, being perhaps a Protestant or anti-Catholic, naturally think like Judas. How sad.

2) Pilgrims and visitors to the Vatican give millions in donations to help not only keep up the Vatican, but also to feed the poor in Rome. This has always been the case. The Catholic Church does more to help the poor than all other churches combined.

3) That so-called embarrassing wealth was donated by the faithful for the service of God. We like it where it is and want it to continue being used for His service and service to the poor. If everything in the Vatican was sold billions would be raised but then quickly spent on the poor and you would STILL HAVE THE POOR. Didn’t LBJ’s Great Society teach us that after hundreds and hundreds of billions have been spent in just 40 years.

But go ahead and think like that great humanitarian Judas. Gee, things turned out so well for him too.

(snicker) Don’t be too quick to judge in that situation: 1 Cor 10:4.

Well, Bible is full of sefl-contradictions. Example: in New Testament did Judas hanged himself or fell and cracked his scull? Should we believe that world is only few years old? You cannot possibly take Bible literally. Catholic Church was and still is crucial to western identity and it's strength whether you like it or not (one of sources for example: Thomas Woods “How Catholic Church built western civilization”). Being part of western civilization and fighting against Catholic Church is like cutting tree branch you sitting on. Believe in whatever you like and leave others be. Instead of believing that you have to save (convert) some catholics maybe save yourself first.

Several months ago that young lady went to confession. While there, the priest asked her where she was working. She told him that she was working for the American Bible Society. He said, "You’ll have to stop that." She inquired why adding that she thought it was wonderful to spread God’s Word. His answer was that such furthers Protestantism. If the distribution of Bibles and Testaments free from anything other than the Word of God furthers Protestantism, what can you say for Catholicism? Could there be any stronger indictment of the Catholic Church as a man-made religious organization than that? Incidentally, you might be interested to know that I baptized that young lady into Christ.

This made me smile, I have a good friend, a cradle Catholic that was born again, she became a real student of scripture. The more she studied the more she questioned if she could remain Catholic.

Her family had many personal friendships with priests so she decided to go to them and get some spiritual guidance .

She asked the Lord to please let her know clearly if she should remain in the church. She visited an old friend a Monsignor in her diocese .

She told him about her conversion and her love of scripture.. He told her she had a choice, she could either be a Catholic or be a bible believer she could not be both..

She praised God for His clarity in the answer and she left the Catholic church.

I've been a Catholic for 50 years. I must admit there were times, especially during the crazy College days, to look elsewhere for maybe another church; just to see what else was out there.
What I found is that there is no other Church. Why take a step downwards or backwards? So, I remained and grew within the Church, and still continue to grow.

How could one leave the Church that Christ founded?

No wonder why those that leave, come back.......and those seeking spiritual truth, come in.

marshmallow, please let me give you a list of some the things I love about Catholics.

Catholics as a rule do more good works than their Protestant brothers and sisters. (I don’t care if people disagree. I believe it’s true.)

Catholics are better organized than protestants.

Catholics are more united on any given issue than Protestants.

Catholics are more consistent givers. I’m guessing that a large portion of the monthly money donated to Free Republic comes from Catholics but I don’t know for sure.

The anti-abortion rallies I’ve attended have had higher percentages of Catholics than protestants.

Two Catholics let me marry their daughter and gave me $25,000 for a down payment on my house in the country.

I DON’T HATE CATHOLICS! I just think some of the Catholic doctrine is wrong and I would like to see them all saved and in Heaven someday.

I do think I’m going to lay off on the Catholic posts. I think I’ll try using some softer methods of persuasion.

He told her she had a choice, she could either be a Catholic or be a bible believer she could not be both..

A misunderstanding on her part, or a bad choice of words on the part of the priest.

On another note .... How ya been, mom?!

But if you said to that rock something like...’dear God, please help me’...wouldn’t the one God hear you? He would know you were addressing a rock, but praying to Him, wouldn’t He? Just because someone would think God was in a rock, doesn’t mean they don’t believe in God, does it? Maybe they just think God took the form of a rock, because that was the only thing out there in the middle of the desert that stood out? God could do that, couldn’t He?
