The Scenario:
Ever have one of those days when youre feeling full of energy and vigor? I mean, youre feeling just obnoxiously happy? Well, this is one of those days.
Driving home from work, you switch on the radio to see whats happening, and you tune in to a local Protestant radio station just in time to hear a preacher speaking against various Catholic doctrines concerning Mary. The show is called Pastor Bobs Bible Hour. Pastor Bob proclaims: Jesus knew Catholics would come along and begin to worship His mother and call her perpetual virgin and absurd things like that. But the Bible says: Is not this the carpenters son? Is not His mother called Mary? And are not His brethren James and Joseph and Simon and Judas? And are not all of His sisters with us? (Matt. 13:55-56a). And isnt it sad, my brothers and sisters?
Pastor Bob goes on to say: Jesus dealt with these Mary worshippers in His day. In Luke 11:27-28, the Bible says, A woman in the crowd raised her voice and said to Him, Blessed is the womb that bore You, and the breasts that You sucked! But He said, Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it!
On a normal day you would probably just listen, take a few mental notes and drive on. But not this time. Youre feeling a little bit too saucy. You take the first exit you see and head for a phone. This is just one more reason why you need to buy that cell phone youve been talking about getting.

If you don’t want to answer my questions, you don’t need to post to me.
"And he answered them, saying, Who is my mother, or my brethren?
And he looked round about on them which sat about him, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren!
For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother. Mark 3:33-35
“And knew her not till she had brought forth”
OK, for the sake of argument , you can have that one.
What about he knew her not till? Can you still argue he never knew her?
She, we honor.
"or the one that blesses ?"
HE, we ADORE.
From Barnes commentary:
Mt 1:25
Verse 25. Knew her not. The doctrine of the virginity of Mary before the birth of Jesus is a doctrine of the Scriptures, and
very important to be believed. But the Scriptures do not affirm that she had no children afterwards. Indeed, all the
accounts in the New Testament lead us to suppose that she had. Cmt. on Mt 13:55. The language here evidently implies
that she lived as the wife of Joseph after the birth of Jesus.
Her firstborn son. Her eldest son, or he that by the law had the privilege of birthright. This does not of necessity imply
that she had other children; though it seems probable. It was the name given to the son which was first born, whether
there were others or not.
Look again..His mother and brothers wanted to see him..the crowd told His so He could go to them...What did He say..YOU that do the will of my Father are as dear and as important to me as my mother and family.
He did not get up in response to his mothers call, He continued teaching
His mother and brothers thought He was crazy or demon possessed..
Read Mark on this
Mark3:20 One time Jesus entered a house, and the crowds began to gather again. Soon he and his disciples couldnt even find time to eat.
21 When his family heard what was happening, they tried to take him away. Hes out of his mind, they said.
22But the teachers of religious law who had arrived from Jerusalem said, Hes possessed by Satan,e the prince of demons. Thats where he gets the power to cast out demons.
23Jesus called them over and responded with an illustration. How can Satan cast out Satan? he asked.
24A kingdom divided by civil war will collapse.
25Similarly, a family splintered by feuding will fall apart.
26And if Satan is divided and fights against himself, how can he stand? He would never survive.
27Let me illustrate this further. Who is powerful enough to enter the house of a strong man like Satan and plunder his goods? Only someone even strongersomeone who could tie him up and then plunder his house.
28I tell you the truth, all sin and blasphemy can be forgiven,
29but anyone who blasphemes the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven. This is a sin with eternal consequences.
30He told them this because they were saying, Hes possessed by an evil spirit.
31Then Jesus mother and brothers came to see him. They stood outside and sent word for him to come out and talk with them.
32There was a crowd sitting around Jesus, and someone said, Your mother and your brothersf are outside asking for you.
This verse reveals what family members believed Jesus was insane , and that they found him at this point.. remember they had gone to find him , because they wanted to take charge of Him( vs 21) and arrived here at verse 31.)...Mary was with them
33Jesus replied, Who is my mother? Who are my brothers?
34Then he looked at those around him and said, Look, these are my mother and brothers.
35Anyone who does Gods will is my brother and sister and mother.
Jesus here makes a clear distinction between the family of the flesh and a spiritual family. His earthly family were not doing the will of God in this circumstance..
We have Tradition within the "pillar and ground of truth".
I am blessed do you honor me?
Growing up Catholic, I've known none that do. Nor does the the Catholic Church teach the worship of Mary.
Why not?
Are sports stars not honored because of the gifts they've been blessed with...
I am blessed with the grace of God )
A pillar holds something up, it does not make infallible decisions
The Church is to hold up the word of God, not make it up :)
It supports and preserves the word of truth. That Pillar stands on Christ. " Christ is the alone ground of the truth in the highest sense" (1Co 3:11)
The Church is the support and preserver of the Truth of Christ and His word.. This one reference to the church as the pillar and ground of truth has nothing to do with God giving over His attribute of infallibility to a man or an organization
Every thing you have is a blessing, natural of spiritual: what have we that we have not recieved.
A personal belief of Brother Martin. It isn't supported by Scripture, so it isn't part of the Lutheran Confessions. Where he references an article of faith
, perhaps he is referring to his Catholic upbringing.
We agree.
Heck, if I would have been Pastor Bob, I would have simply said Mary could not have been sinless for scripture clearly teaches that ALL have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. And Mary rejoiced in her need for a savior.
Next caller.
Nobody said she didn't need a Savior.
Another very simple item that is often over-looked. When did the Catholic church decide on the co-redemptrix role, the hail Mary prayer and her veneration? Was it when the church was founded approx 320-330AD - or only recently in the last 2 centuries?
Course that also points out a bigger problem with the foundations of the RCC. How could Peter be the 1st pope for the RCC since he was long dead when it was founded?
Better yet please show the Bible scripture supporting the need for a pope (aka the vicar of Christ)? Do you Catholics even understand what the word vicar means?
