Nuts and Bolts - By Tim Staples: Mary Worshippers Need Not Apply

The Scenario:

Ever have one of those days when you’re feeling full of energy and vigor? I mean, you’re feeling just obnoxiously happy? Well, this is one of those days.

Driving home from work, you switch on the radio to see what’s happening, and you tune in to a local Protestant radio station just in time to hear a preacher speaking against various Catholic doctrines concerning Mary. The show is called Pastor Bob’s Bible Hour. Pastor Bob proclaims: “Jesus knew Catholics would come along and begin to worship His mother and call her perpetual virgin and absurd things like that. But the Bible says: ‘Is not this the carpenter’s son? Is not His mother called Mary? And are not His brethren James and Joseph and Simon and Judas? And are not all of His sisters with us?’ (Matt. 13:55-56a). And isn’t it sad, my brothers and sisters?”

Pastor Bob goes on to say: “Jesus dealt with these Mary worshippers in His day. In Luke 11:27-28, the Bible says, ‘A woman in the crowd raised her voice and said to Him, “Blessed is the womb that bore You, and the breasts that You sucked!” But He said, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it!”’”

On a normal day you would probably just listen, take a few mental notes and drive on. But not this time. You’re feeling a little bit too saucy. You take the first exit you see and head for a phone. This is just one more reason why you need to buy that cell phone you’ve been talking about getting.

Step One:

Yes. This is what I said:

She [Mary] is the high point and the fulfillment of the sacred Hebrew mission.

You paraphrased it badly as "reason for plan of salvation". The reason for the plan of salvation is you and me, people in need of salvation. The fulfillment of THAT is definitely Jesus. The mission of the Hebrews was to produce Mary who then gave us the Savior.

"Thank you though for reminding me that “woman” in “the prophecies” can just as easily be Babylon"

Woman can be many things, but "The Woman" can only be Israel, beginning in Genesis 3 and onward.

But with Mary the work of the Hebrews was done. The rest was in the hands of Jesus.

The point of it is, you cannot separate Jesus from His mother.

How about if I just pencil in “Mary” every time I see the word “woman”?

That would be just as silly as your original method. You just have to read it as written, and be prepared for the difficulty that there is no cypher to the Bible. It says what it says. If by substituting words the meaning would have become clearer, the inspired writer would have done the substitutions already for you.

But the scripture I see, Apocalypse 12, says otherwise.

Regarding the apostolic gift, too, re-read about the Visitation.

Read the scripture. Don’t speculate. Read it.

I love you guys. This is a lot of fun. You mean, "The Woman" like in the original English?

"But with Mary the work of the Hebrews was done."

So sadly wrong!

The next phase of the mission of the Hebrew people begins when the Millenial reign begins, and is described in the prophecies of Ezekiel. He describes the dead dry bones of the chosen nation coming back together, and the Holy spirit breathing the breath of life back into the nation of Israel, and the throne of David being re-established in the land, and the feasts of the Lord being celebrated by all the nations.

The papist pagan construct leaves much of the Lord's beautiful plan wrinkled up on the drafting room floor!

None of the pagan visions you view are contained in God’s word.

Rest. It’s Sunday. I’ll have a drink myself soon. Then, we’ll party.

I don’t drink . Maybe that’s where you get the idea that Mary flew into the wilderness.

Your posts read like you've had more than enough already.

Apparently, it's a different desert. Is that apparently in the plain meaning?

I'm still reeling from the entire OT was a prophecy of Mary!

Whew! I feel like posting an emoticon.

Rev 12 according to Catholic theology, is about the assumption of Mary into heaven. Who would have guessed heaven is apparently a different desert?

Is that the only reason that God chose Israel, so Mary could come from them?

Mary is not the objective here, Jesus is. Yes, the preparation for the Incarnation, of which Mary is the sole human agent, is the reason of the special revelation given Israel.

I said “apparently” because it is indeed not clear from the text how the two deserts are related, but what is in the text is that the desert Mary flew to is prepared by God for her.
