Nuts and Bolts - By Tim Staples: Mary Worshippers Need Not Apply
Envoy ^ | Tim Staples

The Scenario:

Ever have one of those days when you’re feeling full of energy and vigor? I mean, you’re feeling just obnoxiously happy? Well, this is one of those days.

Driving home from work, you switch on the radio to see what’s happening, and you tune in to a local Protestant radio station just in time to hear a preacher speaking against various Catholic doctrines concerning Mary. The show is called Pastor Bob’s Bible Hour. Pastor Bob proclaims: “Jesus knew Catholics would come along and begin to worship His mother and call her perpetual virgin and absurd things like that. But the Bible says: ‘Is not this the carpenter’s son? Is not His mother called Mary? And are not His brethren James and Joseph and Simon and Judas? And are not all of His sisters with us?’ (Matt. 13:55-56a). And isn’t it sad, my brothers and sisters?”

Pastor Bob goes on to say: “Jesus dealt with these Mary worshippers in His day. In Luke 11:27-28, the Bible says, ‘A woman in the crowd raised her voice and said to Him, “Blessed is the womb that bore You, and the breasts that You sucked!” But He said, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it!”’”

On a normal day you would probably just listen, take a few mental notes and drive on. But not this time. You’re feeling a little bit too saucy. You take the first exit you see and head for a phone. This is just one more reason why you need to buy that cell phone you’ve been talking about getting.

Step One:

Applause.

In that text you posted verse 5 identifies the woman as the mother of a son, and verse 10 identifies that son as Christ.

See that wasn’t so hard.

Show me where it says “Mary the mother of Christ”. All I see is “woman”.

Mary was not a woman? Christ called her “woman”. I think, she was a woman. What do you think?

The sun and the moon are shown as decorations that she has as Queen of Heaven. Also, the crown, attribute of sainthood.

But the point is again, not what these attributes mean but that she is identified as Mary, mother of Christ. If you don’t know how to interpret them, that is not really my problem. I got hard enough time getting you to read the scripture that we have in focus.

So you see mother of Christ in Apoc. 12, but now you are not sure if that mother of Christ is Mary?

Still Yopios. No one is arguing that Mary is the human mother of Jesus, but Mary does not fit the woman described in the entire passage or the passages that relate to the rest of the bible, wherein is the correct interpretation. This is how error comes about, subjective commentary.

Mary does not fit the description of mother of Christ?

You are sure about that?

The sun and the moon are shown as decorations that she has as Queen of Heaven.

lol, that would make her Ashtoreth. As to Mary, Yopios, no biblical support, purely imaginary.

No, that would simply mean that Mary the mother of Christ has these attributes, cuz the Bible tells us so.

Mary is the human mother of Christ, no one is arguing that. The "woman" that is the subject of the full passage Rev 12 does not fit Mary. YOPIOS.

What attributes and please list where “the bible tells us so,” with references to the sun and the moon. Thanks in advance

The woman in Rev 12 is described as the mother of Christ. Unless you can point to two mothers of Christ or two Christs, that would be Mary, and your disagreement with the entirety of the passage is a defect of your personal interpretation of scripture.

The attributes are the attributes you wondered about, the sun, the moon, the crown, etc. They are described in Apoc 12. Apoc. 12 is the chapter we are discussing today. It was posted on this page twice. It is probably in your Bible, too.

You posted scripture that says “The woman described in Rev. 12 as the mother of Christ is not Mary”? Where?

The goal post for the past hour or so was that the woman in Rev. 12 is Mary because she is described therein as the mother of a son Who is Christ. I was not sure what goalpost I changed and what data beside the Bible we need, but by all means, access the “data”.

lol, I have. the woman described in Rev 12 has no resemblance to Mary, the human mother of Christ. She did not flee into the desert after the resurrection, she has no “seed” that the devil has waged war with, the devil never sent a flood after Mary, Mary never flew into the desert on eagles wings nor was she nourished for 3 and a half years in the wilderness. she has no biblical relevance to the sun and the moon other than in some’s fanciful yopios.
