Nuts and Bolts - By Tim Staples: Mary Worshippers Need Not Apply

The Scenario:

Ever have one of those days when you’re feeling full of energy and vigor? I mean, you’re feeling just obnoxiously happy? Well, this is one of those days.

Driving home from work, you switch on the radio to see what’s happening, and you tune in to a local Protestant radio station just in time to hear a preacher speaking against various Catholic doctrines concerning Mary. The show is called Pastor Bob’s Bible Hour. Pastor Bob proclaims: “Jesus knew Catholics would come along and begin to worship His mother and call her perpetual virgin and absurd things like that. But the Bible says: ‘Is not this the carpenter’s son? Is not His mother called Mary? And are not His brethren James and Joseph and Simon and Judas? And are not all of His sisters with us?’ (Matt. 13:55-56a). And isn’t it sad, my brothers and sisters?”

Pastor Bob goes on to say: “Jesus dealt with these Mary worshippers in His day. In Luke 11:27-28, the Bible says, ‘A woman in the crowd raised her voice and said to Him, “Blessed is the womb that bore You, and the breasts that You sucked!” But He said, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it!”’”

On a normal day you would probably just listen, take a few mental notes and drive on. But not this time. You’re feeling a little bit too saucy. You take the first exit you see and head for a phone. This is just one more reason why you need to buy that cell phone you’ve been talking about getting.

Step One:

i don’t speak anything bad against Mary as the mother of our Lord.. I told you how I feel but you have chosen not to understand. Not our problem.

I don’t attempt to invalidate any of these verses. I simply point out that “mother of Christ” especially one described in such real physiological terms as the woman in Apoc. 12 has got to be, well, mother of Christ.

Well, no it doesn’t as that interpretation is not supported by scripture. that is YOPIOS.

A discussion thread without discussion. Hmm...an interesting concept. Perhaps instead of words everybody uses emoticons or stings of emoticons. A thrilling proposal. Of course some emoticons may need to be banned. I wonder what a bigoted emoticon would look like? The possibilities are endless.

Genius!

As I recall, making a thread about a particular poster is making it personal, and that is against the rules on open threads.

I’m certain everyone here knows how to avoid that.

Mother of Christ is not “interpretation”. Christ did not have two mothers.

Can you give me the exact text in Rev 12 that calls her “mother of Christ”. This is exactly the kind of subjective interpretation that leads one into error, coming to the conclusion that Mary is up in the sky with a crown and a throne. Mary was the human mother of Christ, no one is arguing that, but that is not the full description of the woman in the scripture. The crowned ones are saints, ie, those who belong to Christ’s church.

Is Mary “the Jerusalem above”, after all, she is what? “the mother of us all”. Jesus is called son of God, son of David, Abraham’s seed, and maybe more. That’s 3 Fathers right there, and Joseph, and the HS.

Rev 12 calls her “the woman”. Where is she called in the passage, “the mother of Christ”

Please see 1218, or get yourself your own Bible. The woman is identified as the mother of Christ by birth in the opening paragraphs of Apoc. 12. However else she is described does not alter the point that she is described as the physical mother of Christ. Read what is written.

Please read post 1218 with the relevant passages bolded. You will find there a woman identified as the mother givign physical birth to a son who is a few verses later identified as Christ.

Rev 12

1And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars:

2And she being with child cried, travailing in birth, and pained to be delivered.

3And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads.

4And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born.

5And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and to his throne.

6And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days.

7And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels,

8And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven.

9And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

10And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.

11And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.

12Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.

13And when the dragon saw that he was cast unto the earth, he persecuted the woman which brought forth the man child.

14And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent.

15And the serpent cast out of his mouth water as a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away of the flood.

16And the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed up the flood which the dragon cast out of his mouth.

17And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.

Still it is “the woman”, not Mary.

The reference to the sun and the moon-— what’s that got to do biblically with Mary?
