thank you for bumping this thread. It is because of people just like you that help keep the false beliefs of mormonism in the forefront as well as helping to generate 2000+ views.

I have been thinking about the Disneyland comment. Does that mean the person is comparing lds to fantasyland?

Yes I did serve a mission for the LDS Church because I believe in the message of my Church and wanted to share it with others. If people wanted to listen I was happy to talk about my faith. We’d get into discussions, but I tried very hard to avoid being mean-spirited and offensive.

Did you ever...
...talk about the "universal apostasy" -- thereby effectively calling all Christians you discussed that with "apostates?"
...cite D&C 1:30 to anyone, thereby implying that you represented the "only true and living church upon the face of the earth"?
...cite anything from 1 Nephi to anybody you talked with, giving credence to a book that claims there's only two churches -- the church of the Lamb (which I'm sure you believe is the Mormon church) & the other one to which all other churches would thereby fall under his umbrella -- the church of Satan (see 1 Nephi 14:9-10).
...talk about the "first vision" of Joseph Smith with anyone during your mission? If so, you directly supported ALL of the Lds "scriptures" surrounding that vision -- as found in Joseph Smith - History, Pearl of Great Price. That would, of course, include vv. 18-20, which labels every single creed as an "abomination" to the Mormon god...not a single one as honoring God...it also labels NONE of the Christian sects as worth joing...that we're essentially heart drifters from God...and that ALL of our professors are supposedly "corrupt."

I'm sorry, but this kind of "cafeteria Mormonism" -- where you perhaps only initiate an "iceberg" of your past presentations about Christianity and/or beliefs about them in these online convos -- but neglect to share any of the above you may have shared on your mission...
...or you neglect to also mention that your offerings/tithing $ goes toward the translation of all the above into over 100 languages to pay for this kind of slander of Christianity...
...or you neglect to also mention that your offerings/tithing goes to pay for Lds curricula & Lds.org & Lds publishings to likewise highlight all of the above...
...well, you can see we might come to understand that the typical Mormon approach to all of this is to speak softly but carry a big Pearl of Great Price, D&C, & Book of Mormon stick...where you let these do the bulk of your bashing...while also guiding your accusations of Christians as being...
...apostates
...creedally abominable...
...corrupt...
...powerless...
...heart-drifters...
...unworthy of joining...
...the church of Satan...
...and by implication, a false & dead church...

So, have you ever repented of any of the above?
Have you ever told SLC you don't want your offering/tithing $ going toward the translation, publishing, republishing, etc. of any of the above works?

No?

Well, nice comprehensive slam job of us Christians, then. (When will Lds ever take responsibility for what their leaders publish about us, given that it rides 100% on offering/tithing funding???)

>>”This Elsiethon is killing me!!”<<

Me, too.

No one can deny that she really thinks highly of herself. I can't imagine how someone can spend so much time in the negative when it is much more pleasant being positive about something. I also wonder if she expends as much energy promoting her church as she does denigrating the Mormons?

What a lonely life she must lead. I call for all Mormons and even non-Mormons to say a prayer for her today. I'm sure she'll be in the church of her choice all day and won't be able to respond.

Maybe we'll all get a break from her never-ending “cut and paste” editorials from her Mormon-haters library.

I haven’t repented of the things I taught as a missionary because I believed (and still believe) them to be true. That would include the belief in the apostasy, and the restoration of the fulness of the gospel by the Lord in these latter days.

I don’t condemn people who don’t believe the way I do, and I don’t, and can’t judge them. Final judgment rests alone with God, who is the only one capable and authorized of making a judgment that is just.

If people believe differently and want to worship in another way, I’ll defend their right to do so. That is all part of the great blessing of having religious freedom.

An article of the LDS faith states, “We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege; let them worship how, where and what they may”

And this:

“The inhabitants of the moon are more of a uniform size than the inhabitants of the earth, being six feet in height. They dress very much like the Quaker style and are quite general in style or fashion of dress. They live to be very old; coming generally near a thousand years. This is the description of them as given by Joseph [Smith] the Seer, and he could see whatever he asked the Father in the name of Jesus to see.”

- Journal of Oliver B. Huntington, Mormon apostle (1823-1909

Well, if any of the information posted (directly from lds sources I might add and not from Elsie's "mormon haters library" as you state) is incorrect, feel free to post rebuttal information to make your case.

I see that you "forgot" to include the poster you're talking about, so I'll correct your "oversight". I'm sure Elsie would be glad to know that you're calling for prayer in Elsie's name.

Adam, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus Christ, Joseph Smith, and others have each started a new gospel dispensation.

No. God (not "heavenly father", God) started it in Genesis. And Adam, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Moses and Jesus Christ continued the same one. Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, today and forever.

Joseph Smith is the only one that started a new gospel dispensation.

The gospel of Joseph Smith.

Says who by that time the saints should need no reminding in how to behave.

If ye are not united and of the same mind and by the looks at the churches of the world there 30k plus different variations on the doctrines!

True saints are perfectly united in the same mind and in the same judgment Preach the gospel and save souls—The gospel is preached by the weak and the simple.

Your more than welcome.

While I’m not a Mormon and don’t think I know any, I do like to do my part. Besides, I imagine those that start these threads, do like them to stay around a while.

This applies within the Christian faith, within the Body of Christ and his Church.

...Mormonism resides outside the Body of Christ.

"How vain of you to think this fractured progressive group of yours is the Body of the Lord"

Let me get this clear.

You are saying that the Christian faith, the Body of Christ and his Church are a fractured progressive group?

Thanks

More spin from FAIR/FARMS. The LDS believe, and I know I was certainly taught in the LDS church and at BYU, that the Godhead consists of THREE GODS who are one in purpose.

Add to that the common LDS belief that there are numerous Gods on other planets.

“How many earths are there? ...they are continually coming into existence, and undergoing changes and passing through the same experience that we are passing through... Sin is upon every earth that ever was created. Consequently every earth has it’s redeemer, and every earth has it’s tempter...”
LDS Prophet Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, Vol. 14, p. 71, 1870.

“The inhabitants of each world have their own personal father whose attributes they worship... Thus will worlds and systems of worlds, ...be multiplied in endless succession through the infinite depths of boundless space...”
LDS Apostle Orson Pratt, The Seer, pp. 134 - 135, 1853.

“The Fullness of Truth, dwelling in an endless succession of past generations would produce an endless succession of personal Gods, each possessing equal wisdom, power, and glory with all the rest.”
LDS Apostle Orson Pratt, The Seer, p. 132, 1853

ANY belief that that there is more than ONE god is, by definition, polytheism weather those ‘gods’ are worshiped or not.

Hi Elsie

You and I have had a pleasant non Mormon discussion quite a while back and I found you enjoyable to talk with...But I do not and will not bash Mormons because someone doesn't like them...It is less than Christian to call another names such as *some* do. But not all do.. We all must work out our own way in fear and trembling as Christ has said...From what I know of Mormons, they would make great family oriented neighbors. We are to be know by our fruit (way of living) and not by dissing someone whos thoughts are not the same as ours..

You are quite strident in your beliefs,(not meant as an insult) just one thing about your answers to me....they are so long I just don't read them......sorry... Have a great Sunday....
