"This is a powerful short exhortation."

Why not just cut out the meeting then?
You got to spend time traveling to it - what a waste!
You could just pray at home.
Why get up to pray?
You got to waste time getting washed and dressed.
Just pray in bed.
And die lonely.
I had never heard of him and after listening to a couple of the UTube tapes I don’t intend to seek him out again. He seems to be another self-promoting preacher to me.
However, I do respect you and your ideas so perhaps I am a little hasty in my judgment.
“If three or more of you gather in my name, I am with you.” - Jesus.
I agree with you rather than the preacher. Even if prayer meeting is a gossip fest it is oriented around prayer and therefore worthwhile. The danger is to the person praying if their purpose is simply to advertise and seek sympathy or martyrdom. Then it is vanity and a negative.
Good message. I would respectfully ask the other respondants to go back and listen again. He is NOT saying don’t pray for healing or for the needs of the people. What he is saying is that we have a tendancy to focus on the temporal rather than the eternal.
Prayer all too often is an exercise of extending our hand out instead of raising it up. Acknowledgement of who he is and who we are should be the first objective of our prayer, and from that it should be our expectation that we hear from Him for direction. James 1:5 - If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. The key is asking (prayer). And heaven forbid that anyone think that I am a good role model in this.
