In San Antonio, Gomez has undertaken a huge restoration project of the old Missions. I really couldn't say what he will or won't do with Our Lady of the Angels in LA.
He gets things done, but in a very quiet way, as opposed to the Public Smackdown way some of us might have hoped. His way is more effective, and reminds me of the "so be wise as serpents and gentle as doves." approach.
Also, when he has effected some of these changes, it was so quiet, it took us awhile to figure out that some of the public dissident/liberation theology/social justice crowd were disappearing. He took a very hands on approach with the Seminary here to return it to orthodoxy.
There are some Tridentine Masses here. He's been supportive, for those who have desired them to be more available. He has not mandated that each Parish offer a TLM.
As I said on another thread, he has been supportive of the Anglican Use, and Pastoral Provision, and invited Mother Angelica's Poor Clare Nuns to open a new foundation here.
His position on immigration is usually only half quoted in the press. He always maintains that a country has a right to enact laws, and enforce those laws as pertains to immigration. Hope that helps.
Thanks for the preliminary assessment. Doesn’t seem bad to me.
Expect LA liars to slam him
Of course they wouldn’t be LA Liars RIGHT
