Certainly the:
but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.
is going to be true for millions of people in many areas of the United States . . . from nukes and from earthquakes and from volcanoes as well as devastating weather, famine and plagues.

Hmm, I thought you would easily understand as you are certainly one of the brightest folks I’ve talked to. Jesus clearly points out that sin isn’t necessarily the reason for catastrophe. That’s all.

I think bogusname’s choice of scripture is to highlight that in the only instance of responding to a comparable assessment to a contemporary tragedy as what we have with Robertson (that I’m aware of off the top of my head, at least), Jesus did not come close to giving them the response they were looking for (”yeah, those guys really got what they deserved”...).
It’s exactly this kind of facile, simplistic way of interpreting events that is targeted in some of the parables...
