There is nothing absolute about it. The Church tries to screen out men who are not up to living such a life, and one who cannot is able to apply for laicization. There are lots of ex-priests and their complain is that the Latin Church has not created an office that fits their desires. Pope John Paul said as much, well, where would I get the authority to do what they want?
