Humane? The bomb was an example of man’s inhumanity to may - these people crawling around “croaking” wouldn’t agree that this was a humane way to die, nor was it humane that they were not soldiers and could not defend theirselves or shoot back.
I presume you would have preferred that the war dragged on for an invasion of Japan. There would have been hand-to-hand combat mile by mile as we tried to bring a recalcitrant enemy to bay. They would not give up. Among their soldiers, the ratio of KIA's to POW's was enormous. They died in their holes from flamethrowers rather than give up. They flew Kamikazis into our ships. The carnage would have been unspeakable.
It was better to put an end to it quickly. Many more lives were saved than those that were lost. For once, Harry Truman had it right.
