Trouble is, you can find anything to support your position in the Bible. Hell is quite different than what modern people think both in the original Hebrew/Israelite understanding and in the NT Greek.
Catholics are closer by far to the correct meaning/understanding than Protestants.
>>Trouble is, you can find anything to support your position in the Bible.<<
That is somewhat true. Some even argue that regarding the divinity of Christ. I love the way my friend put it. He refers to “bullet” doctrines.
That is, doctrines you’d take a bullet to the head on. I believe Jesus is the Son of the Living God. He is fully man and fully God. I believe He died as a perfect sacrifice for my sins and was raised three days later as first fruits.
Those are my bullet doctrines.
I also believe Mary had sex with Joseph during her life after Jesus’ birth. I believe in annihilation as opposed to eternal suffering. I believe in mid-tribulation rapture. None of those are “bullet” doctrines, however. I could be wrong about all of them and it would not impact my salvation.
All that being said, one really CAN make intellectual determinations regarding the content of the Bible and it’s meaning. And one should at least try to come to conclusions and not just say “you can find anything to support your position in the Bible” and not at least try to figure out what God is saying regarding how I should live my life and nurture my relationships with other men and God.
