Ironically, one of the greatest efforts not yet mentioned are the reforms the Catholic church needs to do, not just to welcome Anglicans, but for itself.

That is, after the painful schism within the Episcopal-Anglican church, Anglicans do not want to just exchange radical liberal Episcopal clergy for radical liberal Catholic clergy and institutions.

The Vatican has already undertaken a step in this direction with its survey of uncloistered nuns in the US. This was a grand and popular gesture, and one that needs to be followed up with popular surveys of everything from the Catholic educational system, and the Catholic health care system, but to the survey and revitalization of the Catholic religious orders and their Anglican counterparts.

(That is, for example, the Dominican Order has a counterpart in the Anglican church of The Anglican Order of Preachers, likewise based on St. Dominic. The two need official reintroduction.)

For the benefit of the Catholic church, much of these surveys would be to determine the scope of heterodoxies that have penetrated these institutions (think Notre Dame).

This serves the dual purpose of reinvigorating and restoring the Catholic clergy and laity, but also to prepare the Catholic dominion for a homecoming.

Yes, the ironies keep piling up. Pope Benedict will have a strong ally in these Anglicans who will be joining the RC Church as a corporate body. The numbers will not be huge, but the influence of these Anglo-Catholic converts will far out weigh their numbers.
