It’s important to distinguish between the Ethiopic Enoch or Enoch I, and the later Slavonic Enoch or Enoch II. Fragments of the Ethiopic Enoch were found in the caves at Qumran among the Dead Sea Scrolls. I’m not aware of this being the case for the Slavonic, so “authenticity” is suspect. The translation most widely available is Charlesworth, and some deem it inferior. There are later translations made with the aid of these fragments.

For historical, Biblical context, Enoch was a seventh generation descendant of Adam and Eve, in the line of Seth, according to the “begats.” He was 65 years old when Methuselah was born, and was revered in his days as a prophet in his own right.

I have read and reread the Michael Knibbs translation of Enoch I, but haven't read Charlesworth yet (IIRC it is not available free online yet).

I have wondered how much the two translation might differ (if at all).

Can you comment on any differences between the two?

For anyone interested, here is a link to the online translation of Enoch I by Knibbs...
