A lengthy but worthwhile read. It will help all of us to better understand each other’s posting comments when we have a clear understanding of the views of our respective churches.
Wow.
>>The common confession of Evangelicals and Catholics includes the virginal conception of Jesus and Marys role as Theotokos, the God-Bearer. The latter term has been resisted by some believers because it can be (and has been) confused with pagan notions of fertility cults, goddess worship, and Magna Mater. Yet the debates leading up to the Council of Ephesus (431), which defined Mary as Theotokos, were framed by the New Testament witness to the deity of Christ. This title was always christologically driven: It had less to do with the status of Mary than with the unity of divinity and humanity in her son. <<
This isn’t going to go over well with some people on FR.
Thank you for this eye opening article.
Is there anyway to ping the more reasonable non-Catholics to this?
All of the people who signed this document must be wrong...to get the truth we must go to Machen and his merry klan of Catholic-haters...donchaknow.
LOL!
Bet you 10.00 this thread dies quickly or is kept alive by Catholics only.
I would love to be wrong....
I would have expected a Muslim mosque to agree with this statement before a representative of Gordon-Conwell.
Bet me ten what? Burundian francs?
Muslims hold a high regard for Mary.
Talk to an Iraqi Chaldean sometime. They will tell you that Muslims frequently left flowers by their BVM statues in Iraq.
We have Muslims visit our parish grotto all the time.
They call her Miriam.
>>Burundian francs?<<
Bet the with the dollar plunging, you’d make out big time! XD
Are you on Webkinz? (I know, silly but I know lots of adults who are richer on Webkinz than in real life)
Well yeah ... that was kinda my point. I expect that within the spirit of the new world order, the RCC will assimilate Islam some time in the future.
That is possible, or it is also possible that the bigots swarm the thread and discredit all of the Evangelicals on the panel.
However, the most likely scenario is for one of the bigots to post the most hateful article they can find about the Blessed Mother. It won't matter that a different bigot posted the same article two months ago, they will go ahead and posted again.
The bigot's thread will get somewhere around 1000 posts and will be full of cartoons of laughing dogs, A LOT of funny fonts with blue and red lettering, quotes from nonexistent websites and a lot of bigots patting each other on the back for making sure Catholics understand just how much they hate the Mother of God.
>>I expect that within the spirit of the new world order, the RCC will assimilate Islam some time in the future<<
Huh?
Yeah, that’s about it.
Prayers for the enlightenment of the Holy Spirit on these good men.
What is this "RCC" you speak of?
Are you trying to make some point about how Muslims hold the Blessed Virgin Mary in high regard and how this must be some sort of negative reflection on Catholicism? Is that what you are trying to do?
If this is what you are trying to do, I wonder how far you want to extend this logic. After Muhammad, the person the Muslims hold in the highest regard is Moses. Do you belong to some cult that rejects Moses because the Muslims happen to like him?
It is odd that this thread has been up for about an hour with no real response from the bigots. Perhaps they’ve instituted some sort of mid-afternoon ritual where they pray toward Geneva.
Perhaps they are organizing secret-police raids searching for rosaries.
At the top of each page they will boldly proclaim:
"This is an official Roman Catholic website. We pray to Mary and all the other saints. We don't read the Bible because the Pope told us not to. We all have statues with Mary nailed to a cross. Everything we say is approved by Rome himself."
