OMG, your Jack is the spittin’ image of my dear departed Brandy. She was the best dog ever. So smart. She lived 16 years, and was still learning new things to the day she died. We miss her so.
Border Collies are interesting dogs, even by dog standards. My first was a mixed breed GSD/BC...20 years after his death, I still think he was the best dog I’ve ever owned. The first purebred was such a high energy dog that we were worried when my wife gave birth - but the worries were unfounded. She raised our youngest daughter. She couldn’t use her teeth to herd her, so when our daughter got too adventurous, Leila would lie down on top of her and call for backup.
Jack has earned the nickname, “Jack the Slipper”. Runs at 100 mph outside, but curls up on people’s feet inside. I’m pretty well convinced that Border Collies don’t need sheep, they need their people! They herd sheep because it makes their people happy....
Actually, based on a couple of times around sheep, Leila had a tremendous amount of herding instinct - but her family was her obsession, as is Jack’s. They are wonderful dogs, as you well know!
