"Just switch out the RC for another denomination...say...Pentecostal...and see how well it goes over. :)"

I am not going to take your suggestion to substitute another religion or denomination because I don't want to be insulting, insensitive or banned.

I have tried to make it known to the Religion Moderator that the term "RC" is a very derogatory and insultimg term for Roman Catholics on par with the "N" word, but have not gotten any acknowledgment or response other than expect to be insulted in an open forum.

The history of it is deeply seated in British (Protestant) oppression of Scotland, Ireland and its own Catholic population. Its use was made popular because of its similar pronunciation to the word "arse" and the two were (are) used interchangeably. Is it "potty language"? - YES. Is it personally insulting? - YES. Is it acceptable on FR - YES, as long as the precedent is limited to "RCs".

Aw, come on. If you have Celtic blood, then you must have some fight in you too. :)

Don’t let it get to you. It’s perceived as whining; whether it truly is or isn’t is of no matter. They’re like libs in that way.

Contend for the Faith, take the hits and thank God for the opportunity.

I don’t recall putting you in charge of my dictionary.

The use of “Catholic” as used by the Roman Catholics hereon is insulting to all the Protestants.

However, we prefer not to wail about it 24/7.

DR E.

Is there some Roman high holy day or some Marian anniversary that has occasioned this horrific RC dogpile on Pentecostals and particularly some of us?

What’s the occasion?

What’s triggered this outrageous outburst of thin-skinned hostility, out of the blue?

Is it a new way to do pennance?

Why didn’t I get the memo?

Did I pick a scab and leave a trail of blood somewhere and the sharks have been driven into a feeding frenzy by the smell???

Mystifying.

I thought it was only flaming liberals who insisted the world had to live by their mangled dictionaries.

Fascinating.

LOL

I just realized, the whine is about the letters "R.C.'s!"

What a riot!

And here I didn't think things could get any more juvenile.

Methinks a Bible's onion skin paper would afford thicker skin! Initials! Sheesh!

MOMMY! OH MOMMY! BROTHER LOOKED AT ME FUNNY!

On Merriam Webster’s online dictionary, RC means either Red Cross, resistance-capacitance or Roman Catholic.

Searching acronymfinder.com and Googling “define: RC” yields more acronyms, but none of them insulting that I can see.

The urbandictionary.com has many definitions, some obscene but none that I can see with the historical reference you claim. Then again all kinds of common words have obscene meanings on that website.

The online etymology dictionary sheds no light on the issue. It is usually helpful when the use of term has changed over the years, e.g. awful.

If you can establish with source links that the abbreviation RC is a slur or reference to potty language in modern usage then do so.

If not, grow some skin or leave the thread.
