From James White: "Moved fairly quickly on to the comments of Chuck Smith and his co-hosts on the "Pastors Perspective" radio program, as found here. This just under five minute clip is a study in shallow eisegesis. It is incredible that these men who are leaders of such a large movement could be so simplistic in their traditionalism. Simply shocking. Then we took calls on a wide variety of issues. Here's the program."

Oh, Oh ,Oh, I have the gift of interpretation, I have the gift of interpretation. It’s “pht, pft, pft, ptoowee. Zoom Boing. Same to you!”
Was I close?
I, too, am among the unbalanced.
I think they’re miscasting Chuck Smith on the issue of predestination. In the past, I heard him arguing more for the mystery of the doctrine than any hard and fast position against it. Maybe I misheard. But, if they have a recent recording of his total opposition to the doctrine, then I wouldn’t argue with him about what he himself believes.
I believe in the predestination that necessarily follows from absolute foreknowledge.
I'm not sure--I'm pretty sure there was something in there about elderberries, though.
That is entirely possible to a certain degree since he is a slippery bird on some issues. His non-denominational denomination has no identifiable creed. It appears to be built on whatever Chuck believes on any given day or he has committed to writing (available for just $8.49). So, listen to his radio show and get your daily dose of doctrine.

And one that necessarily precedes and initiates our calling, justification, and glorification?
It’s hardly fair to fault Smith for being the first in a new movement. I’m sure Lutheranism was not all spelled out, nor Wesleyanism all spelled out during the lifetime of the originator. Cavalry Chapels, in my opinion, are nothing more than quasi-charismatic bible churches.

No, seriously, it's called "projection".
Assuming a new movement is necessary. Some are dangerous, especially when one man set himself as judge and jury as to what the Bible teaches and how it ought to be applied to his subjects. Just ask the followers of Jim Jones.
Oh, sorry, only Calvinists believe in total depravity. Jim Jones wasnt that bad a guy.

BTW, in case you have not noticed, Luther, Calvin, Zwingli, Bullinger (Heinrich, not E.W.), Ursinus, Knox, Wesley, etc did not wholesale abandon the historic faith of the Church. They largely built on what had gone before. They still saw the Church as having certain essential characteristics, which they made every effort to maintain.
Smith is more in line with the Anabaptist reformer who held the Church largely in disdain, preferring a radically new model. E.g., there is absolutely no way to challenge Smith on any of his beliefs. He is, by definition, always right. Like a super archbishop. Any attempt to do so will usually result in a hardy handshake and map to the nearest exit.
If that is your attitude, I suggest for your own soul that you avoid these troublesome threads. They are obviously pulling you down to a place you do not wish to be.

So what is your next step?
Just wondering, is it OK to call someone a "twit" (and here)?
So what is your next step?
Have wonderful journey on the wide road of life. Gentile and a tax collector.
So to clarify then, you would have him drowned, not burned at the stake?
I hate it when I over purchase the marshmallows.
Is that how you read Matt. 18? I thought there was more involved. E.g., two or three witness, tell it to the Church. FR is not the Church. And its not your personal call to make.
I had expected a better interpretation of the Word.
Personally, I would just exile him to California.
This is Ward Smythe worthy writing!!
Ward is dead. Miss him.
