Not to start a Theology war..but The majority of Catholic traditions contradicted the simple teachings of the Scriptures. Tradition is held in higher esteem then God's Holy Word.
That there is a shame. Thanks, I truly love that Quote. It is absolutely true! Amen!! I.F. http://www.theignorantfishermen.com/2009/03/why-call-me-lord-lord-and-do-not-things_31.html
Some clarification is needed here.
The majority of Catholics I know are oblivious to the Bible .. - By oblivious, do you mean they don't own a Bible or have not read the one they have? If, the 'majority of Catholics' you know attend Sunday Mass, then they probably know more scripture than you but can't verbalize it by citing passages by number. At Mass, they will hear 3 readings - one from the Old Testament, then a Psalm, followed by a reading from the New Testament. This will be followed by a reading from the Gospel. Here is an example of what I mean. Your Catholic friends will be hearing the following scripture readings, this Sunday.
Sunday Mass Readings, 10-04-09, Twenty-seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time
For your friends who attend Mass on a daily basis, they will have heard most of the Bible over the span of 3 years. Does your church cover all of these books?

It wasn't until I was 22 that I started to study the Holy Scriptures that I saw how oblivious I was to the realities and truths of God's Holy Word.
That is not unusual. I had 12 years of Catholic school education and never read the Bible. When I did sit down to read Scripture, it was all very familiar because over those years of studying and attending Mass, I had heard all of these stories from scripture but now I was the one pursuing the study. That mad a big difference.
