Satan does indeed have powers on earth, Joseph Smith, the very false prophet is one result of that. The test of God's Prophets is, they are never wrong. Smith's were never right.

The test of God’s Prophet is that he brings forth good fruit. There have been many false prophets, but they have not achieved the success of the LDS church because of the bad fruit that they produce.
