I do not find the Roman Catholic view of transubstantiation repugnant. I don’t agree with it, however. I feel that Paul’s warning to the Corinthians was due to their turning the event into a drunken feast. Personally, I believe that this is a matter of conscience; if a person believes that the bread and wine are actually the Body and Blood of Christ, and that enables you to find a particular “holy” spot of remembrance of the atoning sacrifice of our Lord, then maybe that is best for him or her. Of course, I recognize that our Roman Catholic friends will dispute that based on the authority of the Bishop of Rome, but I don’t want to create a controversy for the sake of controversy.

It’s more about whether you truly believe in the transubstantiation of the creatures of bread and wine into the mystical flesh and blood of Our Blessed Savior. This isn’t The Lord’s Supper, FRiend, it’s Holy Communion.

I think bishops can make exeptions sometimes. Also the Orthodox and Assyrian Church of the East can partake, but are urged to respect the disciplines of their own Churches (which say they can’t, I think).

Bottom line is that the average Catholic in the US just got it reinforced by the hierarchy that baby butchery really isn’t all that bad just a little bit more.

I read on facebook a woman who watched Senator Kennedy's funeral mass, stated that President Obama received Holy Communion. Is this true? Did anyone watch the Mass?

Shame on you. That's how rumors get started.

That's all the "evidence" you have and you start a thread about it? Next week somebody will assert what you said as a fact.

Don't we have enough to worry about without taking every stupid rumor for the truth?

NOT mystical...It’s real..that is if you ae a believing Catholic.

It IS the Lord’s supper.

Would non-Catholics please restrict their comments to their “opinions” and not make your own definitve statements of Catholic dogma.

Other than that...no problem.

Non-Catholics cannot receive the Eucharist. I don’t know where you got that hogwash.

No camera’s showed the Communion line at all. Fox went up to the windows, did the architechture, etc.

Obortion Obama could have gone forward for a blessing, but I didn’t hear the pregressive priet who was doing the Mass say to come forward for a blessing with your hands crossed across your chest.

We will have to get the word of a first hand person who was there.

I turned the TV coverage off when all the yip yap started about dad by his sons and Obortion.

I only watched for the liturgical abuses. And I didn’t watch much.

I have no knowledge of that day's events, but I cannot imagine a priest giving holy communion to a non-Catholic.

Quite....that would be a no-no.

By the same token, a Roman Catholic would not be eligible to take communion in a protestant church. You need to be confirmed in the faith to do that.

**But there is a possibility a non-Catholic (not in full communion with the Church) can received the Eucharist.**

This can happen, but priests and ministers of Holy Communion are trained to watch to see that the host is received. If people are unsure about what to do, I put the host on their tongue.

BTW, it is their sin, not mine, from what I have been told.

Do you believe in the teachings of the Catholic Church and are you in communion with the Holy See?

I recall President Bush attending a Catholic Mass. He did approach the alter(sic) but crossed his arms over his chest, as is appropiate for non Catholics. He received a blessing from the priest.

Why would a non-Catholic want to take communion in a Catholic church? I wouldn’t.

I don’t know where you have been? We have pictures of
Clinton receiving the Eucharist in a Roman Catholic Church. I can tell you that I have personally witnessed many, many non-Catholics receiving the Eucharist in a Roman Catholic Church. I have personally been told by more than one priest that I would be welcomed to receive the Eucharist in the church, and I’m definitely not a Roman Catholic. They knew I wasn’t Roman Catholic, too. The only hogwash is the denial that it happens ALL THE TIME.

Untrue. Many protestant churches practice "open communion", meaning anyone can partake.
