I never thought I'd read such an anti-capitalism diatribe as yours on Free Republic. Breath-taking.

The "capitalism can do no wrong" line is looking a little worn right now, Doc. I'm a Christian first, not a "capitalist". I bet that passage in Acts where the disciples pooled what they had and shared all things in common, doesn't sit well with you either. I'm still waiting for an explanation for how the nebulous "socialistic forces in government" caused the economic crisis. I posed some specific questions regarding events which accompanied the meltdown. Well? Trace out the socialist cause and effect in some of these processes for us.

For the record, for any lurkers reading this, the Church's position does not fit neatly into either a capitalist or socialist pigeon hole, in spite of our friend's tortured efforts to paint the Church and the Pope as "socialist". It should be noted that criticism of capitalism's failings is not synonymous with socialism. A nice summary of the Church's view of the correct ordering of economic activity can be found HERE

And you're blind to any old lie Rome spews, even if it means swallowing the liberal agenda hook, line and stinker.

A disinterested reading of your posts over a considerable time period leads one inexorably to the conclusion that you label everything that Rome says a lie simply because it comes from Rome. There's little evidence to be found of anything positive or balanced in your writing. On the contrary, there appears to be a concentrated effort to find an "angle" in any news regarding the Church. It's now to the point that your posts are like wallpaper; entirely predictable and familiar to the point where they're barely noticed.

The number of conservatives who respect your pope's offensive encyclical is miniscule. Thank God.

You've counted them? Right.

Even if true, the Church learned long ago that popular acclaim would never be an of theological truth.

“I bet that passage in Acts where the disciples pooled what they had and shared all things in common, doesn’t sit well with you either”

That doesn’t mean they disavowed private ownership of property or the means of production. Barnabas still owned property, Ananias still owned property as did Mark’s mother. Contributions were raised as needed from people who worked like Paul, Priscilla and Aquilla.

They considered themselves stewards of what God had entrusted them with which concept is the basis of the Puritan work ethic. The tithe was a tax on the “increase” or profit, a capitalist term.

When RCs' arguments fail, which is most of the time, they often resort to making personal comments such as yours which is against the rules of a Free Republic.

But then so is socialism and enforced unionism and coercive taxation and a global authority "with teeth" ruling over this nation's sovereignty, economy, defense and social structure.

So why should anyone be surprised the rules are broken on this forum when the pope feels free to work to destroy what this country has labored to create for two centuries -- a world economy based on the free market and individual liberty?
