Not the Political Left, surely. If anything, it's only been within the last generation that factions within the American Catholic Church have toyed with drifting to the Political Right.
As far as I am concerned, they started out in the middle, depending on where one lived, and then began the charge to the Left. There have been several periods of stampede to the Left, leaving them a little more Left each time one was over. Pendulum and all that. But I understand what you are saying. The Catholic Charities people are so far over, and moving so far to the Left so fast, that I long ago gave up on them.
