I’m sorry, but anybody with 150 reasons has too much time on his hands.

Alternate: I am a Catholic because I sincerely believe, by virtue of much cumulative evidence, that Catholicism is true, and that the Catholic Church is the visible Church divinely-established by our Lord Jesus, against which the gates of hell cannot and will not prevail (Mt 16:18), thereby possessing an authority to which I feel bound in Christian duty to submit. IMHO this is the ONLY reason needed. Makes the other 149 superfluous.

The list seems to be more of an attack on non-Catholic Christians than a defense of Catholicism. I bet you bristle when anyone dares question “the church.”

Yeah and none of it particularly scholarly. Read Martin Luther’s 95 Theses. The Protestant church exists for a reason. To my Roman friends, I do not doubt your faith. I would appreciate it if you give me the same respect. You are not God in human form and neither is the pope. Believe what you will, leave me to my own relationship with God
To: Guyin4Os
Did you ever think of it as an attempt to educate others? That’s the way I looked at it.

There are many good and valid reasons to list for being a catholic. However, such a list should not be composed (in part) of reasons not to be a protestant. This would be a better list if pared of such items.

There must be a bug at Freerepublic. I only surf the News/Activism forum, but these obviously Religion posts keep popping up...

Three reasons why I remain a Lutheran, LCMS:
1. Peodiphile Priests
2. Indulgences
3. Proven through the years that power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.
Christianity is a state of grace through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.
The Roman Catholic Church is a creation of man, as is every Christian Church. For too many generations, the Roman Catholic Church stood between man and his Creator.

Born, bred and will leave this world as a Roman Catholic. That’s all I need to know. :)

It did have a number of those, I am well aware of them.

Then why do Catholics as a whole tend to worship the Church instead of Christ? As God does not change, why has the Catholic Church changed its doctrines throughout history?

I am a Roman Catholic.
I believe in my God and His laws.
I do not need the church. I did but not now. They have changed their ways to be politically correct and I cannot and will not be a part of that.
I pray to my God wherever I am. In the yard, by the pond, looking at the sky ... you name it. That’s where it is at.
